Are Unicorn Makeup Brushes as Magical as They Seem? We Put a Set to the Test

Unicorns are everywhere right now, especially when it comes to the beauty scene.

There's unicorn-themed highlighter, lipstick and everything inbetween.

The most coveted product of them all is unicorn horn makeup brushes. Everywhere you look, there they are. And everyone wants 'em! Are they really as magical as they seem, though? I was lucky enough to snag a set of these mystical makeup tools from the brand Macy & Mia.

Scroll down to see what unfolded when I applied my makeup using the brushes!

(So majestic!)

I started off by figuring out which brushes I would use to apply my makeup. I normally just use a makeup sponge to apply my foundation and a puff to slap on some powder, then call it a day. Dealing with brushes was a whole new world for me.

After a little bit of Goggling (slash guessing), I determined which brushes I'd use with my various makeup products. I do wish the set came with a sort of informational card about how to use each brush. It would be incredibly helpful for the people who aren't well-versed in the subject of makeup.

(The only tools a girl needs in her life, tbh)

Once the whole brush debacle was settled, I got to work.

Using the brushes was actually quite enjoyable. They felt a lot nicer and softer on my skin than the crusty old sponge I usually use to cake foundation and powder on my complexion.

Their vibrant coloring and majestic design made my experience that much more delightful. C'mon, how can you not love doing your makeup when you're using these brushes?!

(Look ma, I'm a unicorn!)

Because I had never used brushes before, I wasn't sure how my makeup would turn out. I like to keep things pretty natural, appearing as though I'm almost wearing no makeup. I feared that using brushes would leave more makeup on my face than I'm comfortable with, but they didn't.

The brush I used for my foundation did end up putting more of the product on my face than was left on the brush, though I wasn't upset about it in that case.

You're probably wondering how my makeup actually turned out. Like I said, I like to keep my look natural and light, so there's not much of a difference between my fresh face and my made-up face.

(Maybe she's born with it? Maybe it's Maybelline? Nope, it's the unicorn brushes!)

After my experience with the unicorn brushes, I think they're totally worth buying! They're absolutely adorable, they make applying your makeup so much more fun and they actually work. What more can you ask for?

If you want to treat yo' self to the same set I used, you can purchase them HERE. Fun fact: These brushes from Macy & Mia not only look good, but do good. A portion of the proceeds goes to the non-profit Pay it Forward for Pets.
