This annual celebration has been around since 1938—unlike some of the more unusual national food days such as Deep Fried Clams Day (observed Nov. 1 in case you're wondering)—and each year select shops participate by giving away free glazed goodness.

Ah yes, Krispy Kreme, one of our all-time favorite donut shops whose traditional glazed is just as scrumptious as their more adventurous flavors. This krispy kremery is giving away free donuts all day, no additional purchase required. If you need me, you know where to find me.
Dunkin' Donuts
Select any donut that speaks to you this Friday with the purchase of a beverage. Free donuts with no strings attached are great and all, but who are we kidding, donuts are just better when dunked into a cup-o-joe.
LaMar's Donuts
I've got a golden ticket, I've got a twinkle in my eye…oh sorry, back to the post. At LaMar's Donuts you can get yourself any donut with a hole for free for no additional charge other than presenting your golden ticket.
Entenmann's
Calling New Yorkers! If you're in the Big Apple this Friday you have to join the party that Entenmann's is throwing in celebration of their favorite annual holiday. Head to Times Square between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a free donut, and while you're at it, sign up for your chance to win a year supply of sweet breakfast goodness.
Duck Donuts
East coast, it's time to get your glaze on. Duck Donuts, not to be mistaken for Dunkin', is serving up your choice of any free donut with an additional purchase. As if that wasn't enough, purchases made on 6/2 will come with a BOGO coupon printed on every receipt for a "Buy One Get One Free 1/2 Dozen" donuts which you can redeem all summer long, from Monday through Wednesday until August 31.
Honey Dew Donuts
This chain located in two of our tiniest states will be giving away free Coco Loco donuts, their newest variety, with the purchase of any medium-sized drink while supplies last. This new flavor comes drizzled in almond chocolate frosting and sprinkled with sweet coconut flakes.
Stan's Donuts and Coffee
Chicago-based donut shop Stan's is offering up a free donut with any additional purchase. I don't know about you, but their Captain Crunch Bismark is calling our name!
Cumberland Farms
Don't dally on your way to Cumberland Farms this Friday because this joint is only serving up free donuts from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. while supplies last. With purchase of any coffee or fountain drink, this glorious glazed round is all yours.
Underwest Donuts
This trendy NYC donut shop is giving us a double-whammy this year. Not only will they be giving away free mini glazed donuts at their Penn Station location and free mini sugared donuts at their Carwash location, but they will also be debuting a brand new delicious flavor.
