The 2014 American Music Awards were held last night from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, honoring the biggest acts in music today and featuring unforgettable performances by 5 Seconds of Summer, One Direction, Taylor Swift and many more!
One Direction were the biggest winners at last night AMAs, taking home awards in three categories. The band won the title of Artist Of the Year as well as Favorite Band, Duo or Group–Pop/Rock, while their third album, Midnight Memories won for Favorite Album–Pop/Rock.
The band also wowed the audience with the new single, "Night Changes," of the band's new album release, Four.
Iggy Azalea, Katy Perry and Beyoncé also did well at the awards show, taking two honors each. Iggy won Favorite Artist and her album The New Classic won Favorite Album in the Rap/Hip-hop category. She also took to the stage three times to perform "Fancy" and "Beg For It," as well as "Booty" with Jennifer Lopez.
Katy Perry won Favorite Female Artist–Pop/Rock plus Single Of the Year for "Dark Horse" featuring Juicy J, while Beyoncé and her self-titled album won favorite Female Artist and Favorite Album in the Soul/R&B category.
Many of the show's performers also nabbed awards of their own. 5 Seconds Of Summer performed a rocking cover of "What I Like About You" by the Romantics before taking home the New Artist Of the Year award. Favorite Artist–Alternative Rock winners Imagine Dragons performed "I Bet My Life," while Sam Smith took the Favorite Male Artist–Pop/Rock award and sang his hit "I'm Not The Only One."
The show was absolutely riddled with amazing performances. We also got to hear Charli XCX's "Boom Clap," Lorde's "Yellow Flicker Beat," and Ariana Grande took the stage a few times to perform "Problem," "Love Me Harder," and Bang Bang with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj!
But the highlight of the show was Taylor Swift's first live performance of "Blank Space", complete with a theatrical production that totally blew us away! With the recent release of 1989, we're sure she'll be raking in the AMAs next year!
