Every Type of Lip Product, Ranked
Since I started my makeup journey years ago, lip products have been a staple to my usual look. Regardless of whether I'm going for something bold or more natural, having a swatch of color on my lips elevates everything. However, with an unfavorable lip product, my makeup feels ruined for the day.
Over the years, my opinions and experience with lip makeup have become more bold. Ahead, find my definitive ranking of all the types of lip products, from lip plumpers to lip oils.
7. Lip Plumper
There has never been a lip plumper I enjoyed wearing. The burning sensation is terrible, and they never look as good as the lip glosses or lipstick they try to emulate. Honestly, I've never noticed a difference between my (or anyone else's) lip size after wearing it.

6. Liquid Lipstick
I can't be the only one happy that liquid lipsticks, for the most part, went out of style. I tried to love them in 2016, but I never could. They are so painfully drying, and they often emphasize your lip lines. If you are lucky enough to constantly have moisturized, plump lips, you might be able to appreciate liquid lipstick more than I can.

5. Lip Gloss
Two years ago, I would've ranked lip gloss higher on my list, but since I've discovered lip oils, I've almost completely ditched lip glosses. The only time I use them is when I need something to top my lipstick. There are just more benefits to lip oil that have me reaching for it over gloss.
4. Lip Balm
For lighter makeup days, I like to finish my routine with lip balm. It gives my lips a subtle sheen but also nourishes them for the incoming days when I plan to wear lipstick. In general, nobody wants chapped lips.

3. Lipstick
Lipstick is probably the most versatile on this list. You have satin, matte, cream and more, and if you want a bold lip, lipstick will give you the widest variety of colors. Depending on the formula, you can also find one that moisturizes your lips. It's just a classic, timeless makeup item.

2. Lip Oil
These days, I'm finding myself appreciating lip oils more than most other products. My lips become dry pretty quickly, but I still want to wear makeup, so I often opt for lip oils because they give that extra nourishment and have a beautiful finish. I've been successful in discovering lip oils with strong pigment, so it often looks like I'm wearing lip gloss.
1. Lip Stain
Lip stains have been on the fast track to becoming one of my favorite makeup products. I love the "popsicle" gradient lips, and stains are the best for recreating that look. Recently, I've been seeing a boost in different types of lip stains, from matte to glossy, and the range of colors. And it's nice to not have to worry about the color fading completely because it stains!
