A Definitive Ranking of Marvel Cinematic Universe Superheroes

It feels like forever since we've had a major Marvel Cinematic Universe movie hit theaters. Phase Three and Four were definitely the golden era of the MCU—you couldn't find one person who didn't have at least one film from the franchise they felt passionately about.

We're taking a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about our favorite heroes. Below, find our definitive ranking of the MCU leads.

10. Captain America

To us, Captain America is the Super-Man of the MCU. Both of them are the bare-bones superheroes of both franchises. They're perfect all-American guys who don't have particularly meaningful talents, and their most alluring point is their attractiveness. Sorry, we couldn't get into him. We hope that Falcon will bring a lot more to the character since Steve Rogers stepped down.

9. Black Widow

It's hard for us to make any comments about Black Widow because we haven't researched her. In every MCU film, she fades into the background, and we never bothered watching her solo film. Hey, we're glad that she was a strong woman representation during the early eras of the franchise, but there are far more compelling ones today.

8. The Hulk

We have a soft spot for Mark Ruffalo's The Hulk. He's a sweet character, and you know Bruce Banner usually means well. It took some time for him to control his powers, which made his fights feel sloppy.

7. Captain Marvel

There's no denying the magnitude of Captain Marvel's powers. She gave the Avengers an extra edge over Thanos during Infinity War, and we can't get enough of her dynamic with Nick Fury. The only thing that falls flat with her is her personality. We are unsure of how we'd describe her as person after watching the movies multiple times.

6. Thor

Like Doctor Strange, Thor has his serious moments, but there are equally as many where he's silly and carefree. And we can all probably relate to Thor's reclusive period during Endgame. Out of every superhero, he has some of the most interesting powers. Besides, who wouldn't want to wield that hammer?

5. Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange sits comfortably in the stoic category we mentioned earlier. Even then, there are still moments where slight awkwardness and humor peeks out, and we love it. He has some of the best (and most loyal) bonds with his tribe. If no one else has your best interest in mind, you know Doctor Strange will.

4. Iron Man

Would the MCU be where it is today without Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man? Probably not, considering he basically started and is the mastermind behind the Avengers and more. Iron Man is the perfect leader figure for the MCU—kind but stern with a business-first thought process we wish we sometimes wish we borrow.

3. Black Panther

Black Panther was like a complete reset when it hit theaters. The storyline was great, and he's one of the most culturally significant Marvel superheroes. Generally speaking, it's hard not to love Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa—his passion for the role was palpable through the screen. Plus, we can all agree that this film has the best soundtrack of any MCU film.

2. Spider-Man

There's a tendency for most of the MCU's superheroes to lean stoic. The charisma of Tom Holland's Spider-Man is a breath of fresh air. This franchise was the one that established the MCU as our favorite superhero creator. And despite his naturally lighthearted aura, Peter Parker shows he isn't just a one-dimensional comedy relief when tested to protect his loved ones.

1. Scarlet Witch

Depending on who you ask, Captain Marvel may rank as the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Objectively, that might be true, but after watching Avengers and WandaVision, Scarlet Witch's powers felt more threatening. And along with a great set of talents, she had the most emotional performance of all—easily landing her as our No. 1 superhero.
