A Definitive Ranking of Primal Kitchen’s Most Popular Sauces

Since the dawn of time, I've been the person who requested sauce with and on everything. Obviously, chicken nuggets wouldn't be complete without barbecue sauce or ranch, but I also love sauce on more unexpected foods, like eggs.

When I saw Primal Kitchen had a Dipping Sauce Sampler, I knew I had to try it. The set comes with four bestsellers: Chicken Dippin', Yum Yum, Avocado Lime and Special Sauce.

The brand was kind enough to let me try the kit, and I decided to check out a few more that sounded equally delicious. Below, discover my honest thoughts and ranking on the flavors.

8. Ranch

Slight spoiler: I enjoyed every sauce I tried, but since I'm ranking the flavors, ranch was my least favorite. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but it wasn't spectacular either—just your standard ranch. I do enjoy other brands better—for example, Wingstop's ranch or Dairy Queen's Hidden Valley.

7. Avocado Lime

I go through phases with Latin dishes. Unfortunately, I haven't been in the mood for tacos and burritos lately, and those are the dishes that would've been great for Avocado Lime. It has the ultimate balance of citrusy zest and nutty tones (from the avocado), but I don't see myself eating it much anytime soon.

6. Sesame Ginger

Sesame Ginger is like an earthier, spicier version of Panda Express's orange sauce. It tastes good on salad and fits my usual diet, but the sesame profile can be a little too much for me in larger doses. With that said, it's super tasty for the first few bites.

5. Original Buffalo

Everything tastes better with heat. So, trying the Original Buffalo sauce was a no-brainer for me. It's got the vinegary edge but still has a subtle garlic flavor. However, as I get older, my tolerance for spicy and acidic foods gets lower, so I probably won't gravitate to this one very often.

4. Special Sauce

I can't resist those mystery spreads, like the McDonald's Big Mac Sauce and Dave's Hot Kitchen's Dave's Sauce. Unsurprisingly, Primal Kitchen's Special Sauce fits comfortably within the family with slightly umami, slightly zesty flavors. It works well for many plates, from burgers to fries and more.

3. Spicy Ketchup

I know I said my spice tolerance was worsening, but Primal Kitchen's Spicy Ketchup has the perfect heat level. The cayenne seasoning enhances the flavor of the tomatoes tenfold, instantly elevating any meal that I typically eat with traditional ketchup.

2. Chicken Dippin'

If you enjoy Chick-fil-A sauce as much as I do, you will obsess over Chicken Dippin'. It's one of the best dupes and a lifesaver for those aggravating days when the restaurant forgets to include my sauce. Plus, I can now enjoy it at home without making a trip to CFA.

1. Yum Yum

Honestly, I'm surprised more people don't talk about Yum Yum. It has one of the best flavors. If you've never tried it before, it's like the savory but still sweet version of mayonnaise. I've had it mostly in Asian dishes, but I'm counting down the days until other cuisines adopt it, too. Primal Kitchen possesses the epitome of Yum Yum Sauce—I might drink this if I'm not careful.
