A Definitive Ranking of Common Salt Water Taffy Flavors

Sigh. These below-zero temperatures have us craving summer more than ever. Our moods would instantly be healed from a vacation on a beachside town. To make it even better, we'd be downing one of our favorite warm weather snacks—salt water taffy—by the pound as we lounged in the sound.

Sadly, we can't fast forward the calendar to June, but we can still chow down on some tasty taffy. As we reminisce on sunnier days, continue reading to discover our ranking of salt water taffy flavors.

8. PB&J

We are pretty indifferent towards peanut butter and jelly, but it tastes super weird when you try to artificially create the flavor as candy, and salt water taffy is a prime example. The peanut butter overpowers the grape. That said, grape can be hit or miss, so maybe it's a blessing in disguise from making it worse than it is. On the bright side, even people with peanut allergies can enjoy it.

7. Watermelon

Sorry, we're not big fans of watermelon. By default, this flavor is one of our least favorites. Sure, it has an accurate taste, and the pink center and green rim is hilariously representative of an actual watermelon, but we're never going out of our way to try this taffy again. In fact, we'd probably reject any offer for it.

6. Neapolitan

Neapolitan is a pretty genius flavor when you think about it. If you can't decide between vanilla, chocolate or strawberry, why not have them all? For us, it does end up falling flat. It's an unexpected mixture of sweet and tart. If the strawberry leaned more sweet, too, we'd probably rank this flavor higher. However, we can totally understand why someone would enjoy it.

5. Vanilla

You can never go wrong with vanilla anything. It's subtle and sweet. Salty water taffy is no exception. Because of its simplicity, it's the perfect gateway into the world of taffy. When you come a regular consumer, like us, you'll probably want one of their many more interesting flavors that they offer.

4. Butter

Okay, we know what you're thinking. Butter taffy? It sounds much scarier than it is, as it's actually quite refreshing. It does, in fact, taste like butter, offering a subtle saltiness to its sugary base. If you've ever been lucky enough to try olive oil ice cream, we're happy to let you know it tastes very similar to that delicious flavor.

3. Orange Cream

Ah, creamsicle. The more sophisticated version of vanilla. Orange cream taffy is delicious because the orange flavor isn't too sour or tart. It blends flawlessly into the warmth of vanilla. And nothing feels more like summer than this tasty flavor.

2. Cran-Raspberry

Cran-raspberry is one flavor we always enjoy. Thankfully, the salt water taffy did not disappoint. It's super tart, which is what we love. It's one of our favorite flavors to eat during winter, so we've been having it way more than usual.

1. Cotton Candy

Cotton candy doesn't taste similar to your traditional fluffy cone. Somehow, it's even better. The sea salt pushes it over the edge to enhance the sweetness in the best way possible. Besides, that pink and blue color scheme is oh-so-adorable, too.
