A Definitive Ranking of the 1989 (Taylor’s Version)‘s From The Vault Tracks

We are officially more than halfway through Taylor Swift's journey of rerecording her first six albums because today, Oct. 27, she premiered 1989 (Taylor's Version).

With every rerelease, Taylor delivers all the music you fell in love with, but to make it more special, she offers a From the Vault collection, the songs she left behind during each project's original drop. With 1989 (Taylor's Version) comes five new tracks to add more to the story. Below, find our definitive ranking of them.

5. 'Say Don't Go'

This may sound controversial, but "Say Don't Go" is easily our least favorite track in 1989 (Taylor's Version). Sonically, it's reminiscent of its more mature counterpart, "The Archer." It's dream pop to a T and, ultimately, not the sound we believe fits Taylor best. Don't get us wrong, though—it still has those sharp, passionate cries to save a crumbling relationship that we know and love from the icon.

4. 'Suburban Legends'

Taylor's discography is so expansive and connected that you can hear parallels on most tracks. Much like "Say Don't Go," "Suburban Legends" transported us back into the 2022 kaleidoscope of Midnights. It's classic 1989 synth-pop with gut-wrenching lyrics and punchy production. We definitely believe it's the most underrated From the Vault track from this rerelease.

3. 'Sl—!'

There's something about an exclamation point that teases ruthless lyrics and hard-hitting instrumentals—think "get him back!" by Olivia Rodrigo. However, "Sl—!" surprised us because it was quite the opposite, but we're not mad at it. This new lead single from 1989 arguably has the most impactful meaning as Taylor acknowledges the media's misogynistic perception of famous women and how it affects her relationship with a teenage heartthrob over a sparkling beat.

2. 'Is It Over Now?'

"Out of the Woods" offers an optimized glimpse into a highly scrutinized relationship bonded by snowmobile accidents and staring eyes. "Is It Over?" flips the track on its head, revealing the contemplation as it inevitably ended. Over a similar thunderous drum, Taylor contemplates how and when it went awry, yet still yearning about what could be.

1. 'Now That We Don't Talk'

By far, "Now That We Don't Talk" has our favorite songwriting from the Vault tracks. In this nostalgic tale, Taylor watches from the outside how her previous lover changes: a new appearance, a new lifestyle and new interests. It's all a reality check for Taylor. She might think it would've been nice to stay friends—that was never possible—but it's probably for the better. She doesn't have to play pretend to chameleon herself into his dream girl but finally returns to the woman she once remembers.
