A Definitive Ranking of the Most Popular Cheddar Cheese Crackers

We don't need a bag of chips. All we need are cheese crackers, and our snack craving is satisfied.

Compared to a salty bag of potato chips, cheese crackers feel much lighter on the stomach. Honestly, we can eat an entire box of Cheez-Its without feeling sluggish—they're just that good. They're buttery and flaky, and many brands have endless flavors to give you the same amount of variety as other popular junk food snacks.

As the ultimate cheese cracker enthusiasts, we had to put together our definitive ranking of them. Check it out below.

7. Quest

If we were ranking protein crackers, Quest's cheese crackers would probably be at the top of our list. But when you compare it to heavyweights like Cheez-Its, Goldfish and more, it doesn't measure up. Sure, it doesn't have that powdery texture with a strange aftertaste like most protein-heavy snacks, but it also lacks that addicting buttery texture we mentioned that we love in our more frequented selections.

6. Keebler

You've probably seen those Keebler cheese crackers—the ones that have peanut butter or more cheese spread sandwiched in them. Yes, they taste pretty good, but they remind us of our elementary school days for better and worse. It's the type of cheese cracker we only need once every five years. The cheese tastes a bit cheaper, but it still hits the spot when we need a taste of nostalgia.

5. Annie's Organic

It's nice to purchase Annie's because it's always a plus to eat organic food and snacks. However, something about their Cheddar Bunnies is lacking for us. They probably need more flavor, whether they add more cheese or salt.

4. Ritz

Cheese Nips were one of our favorite crackers in the late '00s and early '10s. Sadly, they were discontinued in 2020. Luckily, Ritz dropped their version of it, Cheese Nibs, which had a nearly identical sharp cheddar flavor.  Then, they also got rid of those! If they were more accessible, they might have ranked higher on our list. Sigh.

3. Whisps

Whisps are the new hot cheese crackers on store shelves. According to the product description, they are a healthy alternative, sometimes garnering more than 10 grams of protein per serving size. If we hadn't searched that up, we would have never known that they weren't your average cracker. Plus, they have tons of fun flavors—our favorite is easily Hot & Spicy Cheddar.

2. Goldfish

Goldfish: arguably the most classic cheese cracker. Those little bite-sized snacks are hard to put down. They have the perfect level of saltiness without making your mouth draw up and the texture is so flaky that it melts on your tongue. And we must give them extra points for their wide range of flavors, too.

1. Cheez-It

And if you're not Team Goldfish, you're definitely Team Cheez-Its. Don't get us wrong, with Goldfish at No. 2, it's clear that we love them, but Cheez-Its always knock it out of the park. They have the richest cheese flavor of any cracker available, and you can actually see the salt granules. Don't even get us started on the different offerings—their Buffalo Wing box will always make our foodie hearts flutter with excitement.
