A Definitive Ranking of the Most Popular Salads

I am that person who will shamelessly order a salad at any restaurant. On the surface, you might be thinking, "Isn't there something more satisfying to order? Maybe a giant bowl of pasta or some grand meat-centered dish?" The answer is probably yes, but a salad can be as fulfilling as the more popular choices.

It's safe to say I'm a true salad connoisseur because of my preference, which means I have strong opinions on all the types you can find. Continue reading to discover my definitive ranking of the ones you know and love.

9. Quinoa Salad

I've tried so hard to enjoy quinoa, especially as someone who has grown fond of Mediterranean food. But there's something that does not click. There is little to no flavor, and the texture seems like it should be more crunchy. A quinoa salad is basically my worst nightmare, but I can understand why the target audience likes it.

8. Fruit Salad

I unapologetically prefer vegetables more than fruit. There is never a scenario when I'm opting for fruit. So, when I hear the word salad, I automatically think of lettuce and other fun veggies. If you present me with a bowl of berries and melons, I will be very disappointed.

7. Caprese Salad

So far, this list is me complaining about the foods I dislike. And it's not over yet—I can't stomach tomatoes! You're telling me that there are people who voluntarily eat them as the star of their dish? This salad will get extra points, however, since it has mozzarella and basil, which I can always get down with.

6. Taco Salad

Taco salads are pretty good, especially if you might consider a walking taco as a member of that category. As fun as it is, I almost will never select a taco salad over the real thing. So, I'm ranking this below simply because I never order it.

5. Cobb Salad

Now, things are getting better. A Cobb salad might be one of the most classic types, and it has a lot of classic ingredients: bacon, eggs, tomatoes, blue cheese, avocado and even more. It can be overwhelming sometimes, but I wouldn't be angry if it was the only meal on the menu.

4. Potato Salad

Potato salad is polarizing, but I'm confidently on the team for it. Once you find someone who can make it with vibrant flavors, you'll taste every reason people love it. Disclaimer—I'm a mega fan of potatoes, especially soft ones, so I might be biased.

3. Chinese Chicken Salad

I never had a Chinese chicken salad until this year, but, boy, did it blow my mind. Salads are one of my favorite foods, chicken is my most-eaten meat and Chinese is one of my top cuisines. You combine all these into one dish, and I'm in heaven. It's tangy, sweet and, most importantly, delicious.

2. Pasta Salad

My second favorite food to salad is pasta. And the dressing is what often makes salad appealing. Why wouldn't I want to omit my sauce for my favorite vinaigrette? It's equally as versatile as your standard pasta—pick your favorite noodles and toppings to customize it to your liking.

1. Caesar Salad

Last, certainly not least, is the icon herself: the Caesar salad. I can go on and on about how great it is. It's simple, but the dressing pairs perfectly with my favorite kind of lettuce: romaine. When you top it with croutons, it has that satisfying crunch to add more dimension to your plate. Five stars—my mood always improves after eating this as my entree.
