AB6IX Takes Control of Their Lives on New EP, THE FUTURE IS OURS : Lost

AB6IX have been together for four years, but they're still taking the reigns of their future and constructing their dream life.

In the current chapter of the K-pop quartet's adventure, THE FUTURE IS OURS : LOST, AB6IX places itself in the inevitable climax of conflict in its search for meaning. Though, it's not the suffering they might feel that's most important, but the ways they've grown through the storm. They look for solace, asking, "Will there be an end in the long darkness?" on the lead track, "LOSER," while setting their sights high on "BLAZE" ("Don't wanna lay low […] I choose a blaze of glory"). With a second part to this series impending, it's uncertain where AB6IX will land in their journey, but their surefire confidence hints they'll rise like the phoenix in this blazing battle to own their future.

Below, AB6IX discusses the making of THE FUTURE IS OURS : LOST, their memories from filming the music video for "LOSER" and what ABNEW should expect next.

Sweety High: How does THE FUTURE IS OURS : LOST relate to the overarching story of AB6IX? What does it mean to be "lost" in this current chapter as you take control of your future?

WOONG: We wanted to express the emotion, emptiness, anxiety and doubts that young people living in this current world inevitably face. This album contains AB6IX's struggles for a greater leap forward. I believe it's a stage toward maturity.

SH: LEE DAEHWI, you participated in songwriting for this EP. Can you describe your approach to writing lyrics? What's the most important element within your songwriting process?

LEE DAEHWI: We tried to melt in our story as much as possible in the lyrics of "LOSER." I often consider the comfortable pronunciation and location of sounds so that it is easy for the singer to sing. 

 

SH: What was the most exciting memory from the making of this mini album?

WOONG: When we were shooting the music video for
"LOSER," there was a scene where four members ran in a tunnel. It was really difficult and cold, but it felt like we members were working together to advance into a better future, so it was fun.

DONGHYUN: We had a lot of fun memories while shooting the "LOSER" music video, but I remember dancing on a set with a fire effect the most. It was very hot, but I was satisfied with the scene because it looked cool in the video.

WOOJIN: The music video shooting was fun, and the process of preparing for this album was all fun.

DAEHWI: I think it was very physically difficult because we prepared for THE FUTURE concert while working on the album, but each member did their best because we couldn't miss both. In the end, both the concert and album came out satisfactorily, so I feel very proud.

SH: Do you have a favorite song or lyric from THE FUTURE IS OURS : LOST?

WOONG: I like this part of "LOSER" lyrics: "I am a withered daisy." I think this lyric expresses not only the song but also the album well.

DONGHYUN: I like the song "BLAZE" the most. Singing it relieves stress and makes me feel very good. 

WOOJIN: I like the song "BLAZE," and the part, "The fire that burns eternally even if the body turns into ashes and disappear."

DAEHWI: I like the lyrics,"I want to be engraved in everyone's memories as someone who was intense and hot," from the song "BLAZE," because I think people who have the same jobs as us can relate to it.

SH: As you begin what is described as AB6IX's next journey, what are you most looking forward to? What can fans expect during this period of AB6IX?

WOONG: As it is a two-part series album, I hope you enjoy the album by making guesses about how AB6IX will find what is "lost," whether they will even find it, and whether it would be despair or hope in the end. 

DONGHYUN: Most looking forward to a great song and performance! We ask for your interest and a lot of support. 

WOOJIN: Whatever you expect, we hope to show you more than that, and I think we will be able to make fans happy with good music and good performances.

DAEHWI: I think there will be more opportunities to meet overseas fans this year. Please look forward to AB6IX's journey to make the future ours.
