Adam Ezegelian Dishes on Life After American Idol and TikTok Fame With Adam and the Metal Hawks
Even though Adam Ezegelian made it far as a finalist on the 14th season of American Idol, these days, he might be even more famous for being the frontman of the TikTok-famous rock band, Adam and the Metal Hawks.
There's a good reason for that, too. The band isn't just super talented—they're also hilarious. In fact, some of their most beloved videos involve performing classic songs with the percussive instruments played by banging water bottles against the members' heads. The resulting vids aren't just great music, but also meme-worthy.
We had to get to know the story behind the great band, and we got the chance to ask Adam himself all about how it came to be, and what it means to be making funny, listenable music for more than 3 million TikTok fans.
Sweety High: How was Adam and the Metal Hawks formed? How do you all know each other, and what would you say is each member's role in the band?
Adam Ezegelian: Adam and the Metal Hawks formed in 2019 as a combination of Adam Ezegelian and Metal Hawks. These two rockin' groups came together perfectly and have been working hard to bring classic rock vibes back to the top of the music world. The group is composed of Adam (lead singer), Ryan (bass and back-up vocals), Johnny (lead guitar), and Alex (drums). We all collaborate equally to write new songs, and create an insane rock show for all to enjoy!
SH: After your placement as a finalist on American Idol, what has it been like to find a new audience on social media?
AE: American Idol was a ton of fun for me! I had a blast traveling to California and meeting some of the most talented singers in the world. When I returned to New York, especially NYC, a lot of people stopped me on the street to congratulate me. With our success on Tik Tok and Instagram, I would say we are getting recognized even more than when I was on AI. Social media is a great way to connect with our fans across the globe.
SH: It seems like you've really found your niche on TikTok. What do you think it is about the platform that's really allowed you to thrive there?
AE: I think we have found our niche on TikTok and all of our social media platforms as a fun, funny rock band! Between our musical skills and big personalities, we can bring the classic rock tunes we love to a new fan base! We love mixing memes and music!
SH: Your video for "Sweet Child O' Mine" has really blown up on TikTok. Were you expecting that at all? Were you surprised by the reaction, and why do you think people love that video so much?
AE: One of our most viewed TikToks was our "Sweet Child O' Mine" bowl video. It was a fun rendition of a legendary rock song, one of my favorites to perform. I think it did well because it is a video that anyone can make with their phone! A major strength of the band is how relatable and down-to-earth we are, not trying to play a character or come off as something unattainable. We are just regular people having fun with music!

SH: What do you think sets you apart from other musicians currently building their platforms on TikTok?
AE: I think we are one of the best bands on social media combining music and memes. We are excited to share our new album coming early next year and we will try to start new trends with our songs but it really comes down to hopping on existing trends and making them your own.
SH: Is there anything you're coming out with soon that we should be keeping our eyes out for?
AE: We can't wait to share our new music videos and album in 2022. We are heading to Canada early next year and to Europe during the summer! Keep an eye out for videos on our YouTube channel documenting our journey!
