aespa Drops an English Version of ‘Whiplash’ Ahead of Billboard’s Women in Music Event

K-pop sensations aespa are constantly breaking new ground, from being the first-ever K-pop acts to perform at The Governors Ball and Outside Lands to leading the way in the metaverse, and we love to see them get the recognition they deserve.

This is a big week for the quartet, made up of KARINA, WINTER, GISELLE and NINGNING, who just released a new English version of viral hit "Whiplash," in addition to a new remix by superstar producer and DJ Steve Aoki. That's perfect timing, because tomorrow, March 29, they'll be performing "Whiplash" in English for the very first time at Billboard's Women in Music event, where they're also being honored as Group of the Year.

"Whiplash" was inarguably one of the biggest songs of 2024, and with these new takes on the hit, it's about to be even bigger. The EDM track is a smooth and high-energy anthem of power and confidence, with aespa turning heads with such speed that they give their observers whiplash. The original combined lyrics in Korean and English for a unique bilingual experience, but this time around, English speakers can confidently sing along to each and every word.

And with Steve Aoki's new remix, the song somehow becomes even more infectiously danceable with the producer's unique reimagining of the song.

Essentially, "Whiplash" feels like the gift that keeps on giving,  and we're so glad we don't have to pick a favorite version, because we adore each and every one.

"We're so excited to share these new versions of 'Whiplash' with our global Mys and to have Steve Aoki remix the song," aespa revealed in a press release. "The new English version and remix have a different charm from the original and, since it's a song we can now sing with even more global Mys, we're excited for the day we get to perform it on stage."

"I'm so excited to team up with aespa on 'Whiplash,'" Steve Aoki added. "The original already has such an electrifying energy, so getting to collaborate with the group to bring a fresh new vibe to the record was a fun creative challenge."

aespa truly has taken over the globe since they debuted in 2020, and while the group needed no help becoming a household name, their fifth mini-album (also titled Whiplash) certainly didn't hurt. They've easily torn down cross-cultural boundaries to enter the mainstream, and they fully deserve the title of Billboard's Women in Music's Group of the Year in 2025.
