Canadian singer-songwriter Alex Sampson is one of the most captivating artists on all of TikTok, and his new single, "WANT YOU!" marks a huge step in his musical journey.
Alex made a name for himself sharing his dynamic voice and enchanting his audience with viral covers on the platform before venturing into creating his own original music, earning him more than 3.2 million followers on the app. Today, he released the upbeat "WANT YOU!", Alex's first foray into pop-punk, with an irresistible chorus and sound that puts his versatile vocals front and center. The summery track is all about being drawn to someone you know is trouble, and simply not caring, and is accompanied by an energetic music video filled with fun behind-the-scenes moments. Today, he also announced the exciting news of his signing to Warner Records. We had the chance to chat with Alex to learn all about the song and taking his career to the next level in the interview below.
The Story Behind 'WANT YOU!'
Alex Sampson: "WANT YOU!" is a song about knowing somebody is bad for you, but you can't help but want them anyway. There isn't a personal connection behind the song, but I wanted to write about this concept because I feel a lot of people can connect to it!

What 'WANT YOU!' Means
AS: The song means a lot to me! It's the first time I ever really dove into the punk space and tried something new. I hope my fans love it half as much as I do. It's a fun, upbeat vibe that you can jam to in your car, at a party, at a lake—anywhere, really!

Alex's Favorite Lyric
AS: My favorite lyric from the song would have to be in the second verse: "Cause I get emotion sickness from back and forth with you." It's a cool play on "motion sickness" with emotion, and I felt really clever when I wrote it! An honorable mention is also in the second verse with the lyric: "I want my favorite sweater back and my Netflix password, too," because I think it's hilarious.
On Being Signed to Warner Records
AS: It means absolutely everything to me to be newly signed to Warner Records. I recently had an office visit and met pretty much the whole team, and everyone was so sweet. I feel so welcomed and loved, and I'm just so grateful to be able to call Warner Records my home away from home.
