AleXa Dishes on Her Gorgeous New Single ‘Juliet’ and Leaving Her Romeo Behind

In the competitive world of K-pop groups, it's often hard to stand out as a soloist. However, AleXa manages to do just that.

The former Produce 48 contestant has established herself as one of K-pop's most exciting soloists through her incredible dancing and electrifying songs. After a first-place win on NBC's American Song Contest, a successful U.S. tour, and several new music releases, AleXa has returned with her latest comeback, "Juliet." The emotional pop ballad shows a new side to AleXa while showcasing her songwriting skills.

We had the opportunity to talk to AleXa about her latest release, so keep reading to see what AleXa has to say on her inspiration and writing process for the song, her artistry and so much more.

Sweety High:  What made you want to transition from upbeat songs like "Wonderland" and "Back in Vogue" to a slower pop ballad like "Juliet"?

AleXa: I've always wanted to be an artist with a diverse discography, who can tackle any genre. When I received the instrumental for "Juliet," I saw it as a new venture to take in my artistry.

SH: Do you prefer slower or upbeat songs?

AleXa: Depends on the context, actually. As a dancer, upbeat is more my vibe. As a singer, I prefer slower tracks. My personal music is more along the lines of Lana Del Rey, Amy Winehouse and Melanie Martinez.

SH: Each of your releases has been different in concept and sound. What do you think stays consistent across your entire discography?

AleXa: I'd say that across my discography, the unique AleXa sound stays consistent. Whether it's an upbeat dance track or a slower ballad, there's always that unique AleXa flair.

SH: "Juliet" was completely written and co-produced by you. What were the hardest and easiest parts of creating the song?

AleXa: To be completely frank, I received the instrumental and wrote the song within an hour. Inspiration immediately hit me, and putting pen to paper was the easiest thing I could do. I'm not someone who's well-versed in creating harmonies in songs, so that was left to one of my song producers. But, lyrically and musically, the whole song just came to me in an instant.

SH: Aside from the obvious Romeo and Juliet play, did you draw inspiration from anything or anyone else?

AleXa: Just personal life experiences, to be honest. I want my fans to be able to relate to my music through honest, shared experiences.

SH: We read that you've released an impressive six remixes, alongside the original. Which is your favorite version, and why?

AleXa: The Spanish version is my favorite remix. As someone who has a love for Latin American culture, I really wanted to release the song in Spanish.

SH: In the song, you mention Romeo and Juliet several times, but what made you want to name the song "Juliet"?

AleXa: At the end of the day, it's me alone; just me, Juliet. There was no need to include Romeo in the title, as he is no longer a figure in my life, haha.

SH: What are you most looking forward to while promoting the song?

AleXa: I hope to be able to perform "Juliet" live in multiple forms.
