American Idol Lowers Age Requirement

Teen celebrities seems to continuously get younger, and perhaps that's part of the reason that American Idol is now lowering it's age requirement! The minimum age of contestants was 16 years old in past years, but the show is now pushing it back to allow 15-year-olds to participate as well.

"A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16," says an executive producer of AI. "Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool."

One particular star comes to mind: Justin Bieber, whose first single "One Time" hit the radio when he was just 15.

Do you think American Idol's new age requirement is a good thing?
