Anyone born between March 21 and April 19 is considered a ram, but two-thirds of those people (including all Aries born in April) are also heavily influenced by the other fire signs of the zodiac. Curious? Here's what to know about Aries' decans, and what they might say about you.
What Are Decans?
You're probably already familiar with the 12 signs of the zodiac, but it turns out that each of those signs can be divided even further into three sections, or decans. If you imagine the full zodiac as a 360° pie, each of the signs takes up a 30° slice, then each of its three decans takes up a 10° piece of that slice.
According to astrology, your sun sign traits don't necessarily come just from your primary sign, but also your decan—which is just one reason why you might feel like your sign doesn't quite align with who you are individually, or like you don't have a lot in common with others of the same sign. The decans also have different ruling planets that can further impact these differences. Usually, the first decan of each sign is considered the "purest" version, exhibiting all of a sign's hallmark traits, while the second and third decans have commonalities with the other signs that share the same element. In the case of Aries, this means the other decans have commonalities with the equally fiery signs of Leo and Sagittarius.

Aries Decan I – March 21 to March 30
Aries born between March 21 and March 30 belong to the first decan of the sign and are highly influenced by the aspects of the planet Mars. They're the best-known version of Aries, making them fiery and excitable, as well as active, impulsive and full of energy. These Aries are natural leaders, toeing the line between aggressive and assertive, with a bold confidence and a strong sense of self-belief. They can have tempers but are also quick to forgive, and they don't like being told what to do. They're also not ones to back down, allowing them to achieve great accomplishments, and often resulting in significant success.

Aries Decan II (Leo) – March 31 to April 9
The second Aries decan falls from March 31 to April 9, and these Aries are driven by Leo's ruling "planet," the sun, in addition to Mars. On top of the classic Aries characteristics, they're also known for being extra charismatic, as well as creative. They're positive thinkers who always look on the bright side, sometimes to the point of delusion, but their optimism is an asset in reaching their full potential. Like Leo, they can also be attention-seekers prone to jealousy and being possessive, but they're generally good at keeping their strengths in balance.

Aries Decan III (Sagittarius) – April 10 to April 19
The third and final decan of Aries lasts from April 10 to April 19, and those born during this time are influenced by Jupiter, Sagittarius's ruling planet. These Aries are natural-born travelers and adventurers who love learning new things. They're known for their cleverness and wisdom, almost to the point of arrogance, but they're also highly adaptable and intuitive. They can have one-track minds, often hyper-focusing on their goals to get what they want. They crave freedom and can't stand being held back, and are also incredibly idealistic, often to the point of disappointing themselves when reality doesn't match their lofty daydreams.
