How AUSTN Captured the Rush and Elation of New Love in His New Track ‘Touch’
19-year-old singer-songwriter AUSTN has serious music-making chops, and if you're not familiar with him yet, his new song "Touch" will win you over in an instant.
The song was released last week and is a smooth and funky alt-pop ode to lust and new love, and those times where you feel willing to risk everything just to be close to the object of your affections. It's one we've been listening to on repeat, and we got the chance to ask AUSTN himself about the true meaning behind the track and how it came to be.
Sweety High: What was the creative and recording process behind "Touch"?
AUSTN: From the get-go of the studio session, we all knew we wanted to go in the direction of an edgy, electro-pop direction that still made you want to dance and feel good while listening
SH: What does the song mean to you? Was it inspired by a real person?
AUSTN: This song is not inspired by any specific person, but I think combining past feelings and experiences helped create the direction of the song and the visuals within the lyrics.
SH: What do you hope this track makes listeners feel? Why do you think the slightly mysterious edge of the song is the perfect description of new love?
AUSTN: I imagine this track being played at full volume in a car with windows down at night time, so I hope this song can make listeners feel happy and have fun. I think the mysterious edge within the songs highlights the new rush of feelings and mixed emotions you get when you fall in lust.
SH: Do you have a favorite lyric from the track?
AUSTN: My favorite lyric from the track is "Don't know how you got me feeling so high, 2 a.m. I'm running all these red lights," because I think when you first get feelings for someone it feels like the whole world revolves around them and it's almost euphoric, you will do anything to see them, or catch the high they give you—including running red lights at 2 a.m.
SH: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
AUSTN: I hope you listen to "Touch" at full volume in your car, windows down, at night time, even if it's cold out. Enjoy!
