As fans of actress Ava Cantrell since her Nickelodeon days on The Haunted Hathaways, we've loved seeing her grow up and take center stage with her recent viral horror film, Abigail.
The movie, which was one of TUBI's top trending titles this summer, takes place in the '70s, following Ava as the titular Abigail. After she befriends a bullied boy, she decides to avenge him by violently taking down the ones who harmed him. It's a bold role that's definitely catching people's attention, but Ava's only just begun as a star. 1. Ava is an only child.
"When I as 4, my parents asked if I wanted a baby brother or sister, and I had a meltdown and said I wanted to be an only child. Looking back, I am not sure why they listened. Sometimes I wish I had a sibling. On the positive note, I have learned to be a self-starter, and I have a close bond to my parents to this day. I bonded with my pets as I grew up and it made me really appreciate animals and pets."

2. Interestingly enough, one of the dishes that reminds Ava most of growing up is sushi.
"My parents started me on sushi when I was really little—and not just California rolls. I ate eel, octopus and raw fish like a pro. I have fond memories of us making and eating sushi in our kitchen growing up."

3. Her favorite fan encounter happened very recently.
"A die-hard horror fan came into my gym and recognized me as Abigail before Abigail came out. The trailer released on many YouTube sites and got seen by that audience. It made me realize how big Abigail could be."

4. Fleetwood Mac is one of her all-time favorite bands.
"I love Stevie Nicks. I love her lyrics, voice, vibe and everything about her. I am also a fan of most '70s music."

5. When she was younger, she used to hear the rumor about herself that she was stuck-up.
"I was very shy and would walk up to groups and get a cold shoulder, so I stopped trying. I would keep to myself and then I became thought of as 'the stuck-up girl.' It was hard to deal with because I felt outcasted in the beginning, then moved to feeling that I couldn't win."

6. The film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has made a bigger impact on her life than any other film.
"It encompasses the idea that life is what you make of it—a thrilling and fulfilling adventure if you have the courage to get outside your comfort zone and take risks. It's biggest lesson is that dreams can be wonderful, but if you never take action, none of your dream will become reality."

7. The one food she's picky about is nuts in bread.
"I love both separately, but for some reason, I think the two together are horrible. Something about the texture, I think. Soft bread and crunchy nuts. Yuck."

"The color is calming for me as well as reminding me of my favorite place on earth, the beach."

9. She has a rescue mutt named Roxy, as well as a turtle.
"Roxy is so special. She loves the beach and stays down there all day, happy as a clam, just like me. She occasionally has anxiety, like if there is a fly in the house, she freaks out and races to the bathroom to hide in the dark. She reminds me of a human girl with lots of teen angst emotions. My angels are Bruiser, Gucci, Princess, Momma and Rodeo. My pets have been my best friends since I was a toddler. I love them all."

10. If she could live in any decade, she'd definitely pick the '90s.
"I love all the clothes that my mom has in her closet from that decade. She was so well dressed and amazingly cool from '90 to '99 (and beyond). The movie stars were absolutely gorgeous in this natural way. The music was epic and deep. It was a modern era without social media. People were socializing in coffee shops like on Friends."

11. Ava says that one thing that's core to her as a person is that she's always had a strong moral compass.
"I was a rule follower as a kid. I never gave in to peer pressure, and at the time, it made me not cool, but now as an adult, I avoided all the trappings of drinking, drugs and other issues that end up holding you back from your goals. It wasn't easy and it didn't make me popular, but now I feel that I skirted issues that so many of my peers now have to deal with that have gotten in their way."
