Get to Know Beauty and Lifestyle YouTuber Ava Jules
One look at Ava Jules' YouTube channel, and it's pretty apparent the 19-year-old lives quite the life.
Whether she's frolicking around in a bikini in her Hawaii hometown, hanging out with her fellow famous YouTube pals or documenting her getting ready routine, the carefree social media star (who has more than a million followers!) always seems to be having fun.
Luckily for us, Ava took some time out of her busy schedule to be the very first contributor to our Beauty Lessons series. Get the scoop on Ava and her beauty routine below!

Sweety High: Take us through your journey to YouTube success. When was the defining moment you knew beauty was your passion, and how was the process gaining popularity once you launched your channel?
Ava Jules: My YouTube journey dates way back to 2013, when I uploaded my first video onto my channel. I uploaded beauty videos three times a week for as long as I can remember. It was definitely a grind; however, my motives weren't to get "famous"—I just did it out of pure passion for beauty and video creating. Ever since I was a little girl I've loved playing with makeup, so beauty has been a part of my life for a long time. Gaining popularity on YouTube was a very slow process for me. It wasn't until the three-year mark that I started to gain a following.
SH: What's been your career highlight or coolest thing you've gotten to do through work so far?
AJ: I think the coolest thing that has happened to me through YouTube is that I've become friends with people I used to be fans of. I've gotten to meet some of my biggest inspirations as a young girl and it's a very full-circle moment to be on a similar level as them now.
SH: What's the one beauty item you can't live without?
AJ: I can't live without eyebrow product. That's definitely the one thing I always need to do before leaving the house. I appreciate good lookin' brows!

SH: What's your personal favorite beauty moment of all time? And most embarrassing?
AJ: My personal favorite beauty moment was when I did full glam makeup on my best friend for prom and it turned out so well! I had no prior experience doing makeup so we were all surprised. My most embarrassing beauty moment is any time I wear lipstick and it gets on my teeth [laughs].
SH: Who do you look up to in the beauty space, and have you met any of your idols?
AJ: I look up to Adelaine Morin a lot because she's so talented and humble about her successes! She's been a beauty vlogger for years and I've been following her for most of it. We got to meet for the first time at Coachella and I freaked out.
SH: Which beauty brands should be on our radar?
AJ: Glossier has such good makeup for the natural look, which is my favorite look. It's also cruelty-free and priced pretty reasonably.
SH: Take us through your typical AM/PM skincare routine.
AJ: I take morning skincare pretty gently—just a simple face wash and rosewater toner. My nighttime skincare routine sometimes takes up to 30 minutes. I love skincare. I start off with an exfoliating wash and then use toner to get off excess dirt and makeup. Then if it's a pamper night I'll put on a face mask, preferably the peel-off kind! After all of that, I finish up with a serum and moisturizer.
SH: Which beauty trends do you not like?
AJ: I'm not the biggest fan of the over-lined lips look. I like when people just enhance their natural beauty.
SH: If you could give your younger self beauty advice, what would it be?
AJ: I would tell my younger self to start using moisturizer because I've only begun using it about a year ago and it's a game-changer!

SH: Who are your three favorite musical artists at the moment? Why?
AJ: Ariana Grande is always one of my favorites. She just has such raw talent and puts a lot of soul into her music. A recent favorite of mine is Tame Impala because the vibes are just out of this world good. I also really like Billie Eilish because she has different songs for every mood.
SH: What's your favorite athleisure brand or item?
AJ: My favorite athleisure brand is Fabletics because they have the cutest things! Their high-waisted leggings are my all-time fave. I'm so excited to get to work with them as well.
SH: What's something your fans would be surprised to know about you?
AJ: I think my viewers would be surprised to know that I'm also just a regular teenager trying to figure out her life. Although sometimes it seems like I have everything together, I'm learning and growing every day.
