How Monotony and Heartbreak Inspired Baby Fisher’s Debut EP, Chapter 1
Baby Fisher may be just 17 years old, but he's no stranger to the world of both crafting and performing music, and his prowess is evident on his first-ever EP, Chapter 1
Despite his age, Sam Fisher already has five years of playing guitar and performing at bar gigs under his belt, earning the nickname "Baby" Fisher because, surrounded by music veterans, he was always the youngest artist around. On Friday, he shared Chapter 1, a gritty and personal six-track EP showcasing his range as he sprinkles pop-rock with aspects of punk and glam to create something fully his own. We were hooked from the moment we heard the lead single "Gas Money," and just had to learn more. He was kind enough to divulge Chapter 1's story for us in the interview below.
Sweety High: What does the name Chapter 1 mean to you? Why did that title feel like the perfect summation for your first-ever EP?
Baby Fisher: The name Chapter 1 feels like a beginning to me. I've always been such a dork for books and I grew up reading like a maniac. My mom's an author (and a quite good one, too), so they've always had a grip on me. It just felt right.

SH: What do you feel are the overarching themes of the EP? What kind of feel do you hope fans take away from it?
Baby Fisher: To me, the overarching themes of the EP are monotonous high school, young heartbreak and filling missing gaps in my life.

SH: How would you describe the EP's sound? Production-wise, how did you go about bringing these tracks to life?
Baby Fisher: The EP's sound is very in-your-face. I believe it has the right kind of attitude that I possess.
SH: How do you feel that these songs represent where you all are in life right now?
Baby Fisher: These songs perfectly represent where I was when I wrote them and where I am now. Monotony is always an ongoing battle, as well as romantic escapades and adventures.

SH: What's your favorite song on the EP? Why?
Baby Fisher: My favorite song on the EP to create was "Gas Money," but my favorite song to write was "Jesus and Mary Jane." "Gas Money" was incredibly fun, and "Jesus and Mary Jane" practically wrote itself.
SH: Was there anything that surprised you about the process of recording and putting together your debut EP?
Baby Fisher: It was all a surprise. I was learning how to create responsibly, and I still am. It's always an ongoing learning process.
SH: How are you feeling about releasing this debut EP to the world?
Baby Fisher: I'm feeling very content with how everything sounds. I'm just overwhelmed with gratitude that I get to have a little piece of my mind out in the world for your ears.

SH: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Baby Fisher: I'd like to add a massive thank you to everyone who worked on the songs with me and the incredible listeners and readers.
