Bea and her Business Talks Writing an Almost-Love Song With New Single, ‘WOW!’

If you're not already a megafan of 19-year-old singer-songwriter Bea and her Business, it's time to start paying attention.

Bea's irresistible debut EP Introverted Extrovert has been streamed nearly 50 million times, and her latest single, "WOW!," is a coming-of-age story of an almost-romance and infatuation taken too far that will immediately resonate with anyone who hears it.  Bea wrote the track when she was just 17, channeling her real-life feelings of falling head-over-heels for a guy after knowing him for just three days, with an upbeat pop vibe and clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. We loved it from the first listen, and had the pleasure of chatting with Bea to learn all about it in the interview below.

The Story Behind 'WOW!'

Bea: I wrote "WOW!" at 17, and especially then, the idea of falling in love made my toes curl. I tried to write love songs for so long but I had never been in love so I had to abort that mission and come at it from another angle. I started romanticizing this guy that I had a three-day fling with, and hey, presto, I wrote a love song ish!)—a very sarcastic, self-deprecating love song, but a love song nevertheless.

You know, I thought I was the tough girl, the bada** and suddenly this random dude with brown curly hair comes along, and I'm like right, he's "the one," and I'm gonna marry him! My friends thought that was a bit rich coming from a girl who had never had a boyfriend before…. hahaha

What 'WOW!' Means

Bea: This song is an immediate dopamine booster. It's sarcastic and self-deprecating which sums me up to a tea whilst also having the boogie element to it. I hope it just makes people happy. I hope it makes people feel joy and I hope it makes people dance.

Bea's Favorite Lyric

Bea: Definitely "I'm a wetwipe"—it's very playful, and I guess I love making fun of myself—especially in a world where it's very easy to take yourself too seriously. I think this line is very humbling, telling 20-year-old me that I am indeed still that loser 17-year-old who is figuring out the weird and wonderful ways of falling in love.

What's Next

Bea: Over the course of 2024, there will be a lot of shows, a lot more writing and a lot more releasing!

Final Thoughts

Bea: I feel like this one definitely shows a different side to me. Turns out I don't only write heartfelt ballad-y sad girl songs, lol! Shock horror!
