If you're looking for an outlet to get out all of your anger and sadness, we highly recommend listening to music—in particular, breakup songs. After scouring our playlists, we've come up with 10 recent breakup songs we think are perfect to cry, scream and sing to.

1. 'All Too Well' by Taylor Swift

T-Swift's 10-minute version of "All Too Well" took the world by storm, us included. It's heartbreakingly honest and will force you to confront your feelings. It's sad and you'll most definitely cry while listening to it.

 

2. 'abcdefu' by Gayle

Gayle got her start on TikTok, and when a follower asked her to come up with a breakup ballad, "abcdefu" was the result. How she wrote it so fast we'll never know, but we're so glad it exists. It's the perfect song to scream and sing along to in your car with your besties.

 

3. 'Malibu Nights' by LANY

LANY's lead singer, Paul Jason Klein, knows how to write a sad love song. "Malibu Nights" is perhaps his saddest ever, and that's saying something! Written about his ex Dua Lipa, this is a song pretty much anyone can relate to who's going through heartbreak.

 

4. 'Drivers License' by Olivia Rodrigo

When Olivia Rodrigo's "Drivers License" came out a little over a year ago, it was pretty much all anyone could talk about. You can listen to it again and again and never get sick of it. The lyrics evoke such a strong emotion about love lost, so don't be surprised to find yourself in tears.

 

5. 'Heather' by Conan Gray

Conan Gray's "Heather" will seriously gut you. It's all about losing someone to another person, and if that doesn't give you the feels, we don't know what will. If you've ever compared yourself to someone else, wondering what you could do to be better and more like them, trust us and give this song a listen.

 

6. 'Cherry' by Harry Styles

"Cherry" is one of our favorite songs off of Harry Styles's latest album Fine Line, but also one of the saddest. If you've ever seen your ex move on and find someone else, this song will definitely speak to you. It's so raw, emotional and makes us want to give Harry a big hug.

 

7. 'Ocean Eyes' by Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish is undoubtedly the queen of sad ballads, and we think her song "Ocean Eyes" takes the cake. It was the first song that put her on everyone's radar, and for good reason. It reminds us of a toxic relationship you keep going back to because you love the person so much. But in the end, sometimes the best thing to do is let them go.

 

8. 'Someone You Loved' by Lewis Capaldi

Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved" is a tune that will bring tears to your eyes. It's about loving someone so deeply that you don't know how to live without them. But in a breakup, it's something you have to face and deal with on your own.

 

9. 'The Night We Met' by Lord Huron

We don't know how it's possible, but Lord Huron's "The Night We Met" makes us break down in tears every time we listen to it. Relationships are always good in the beginning, and this song hits that subject dead on, also addressing how strenuous and toxic it can become at the end.

 

10. 'Someone Like You' by Adele

With over one billion streams on Youtube, Adele's "Someone Like You" is perhaps the most popular breakup song of our time. If you were broken up with, you'll relate to this heartbreaker of a song. Adele sings about finding someone like "you" and hopes to find herself another person who can make her feel whole again.
