Watch These Trailers for All of the Biggest New Movies of Fall 2024

Fall may not have the same reputation as summer in terms of being a big movie season, but that doesn't make the next three months any less exciting for cinephiles.

The upcoming season has a little something for everyone, from terrifying horror flicks to edge-of-your-seat action flicks, animation, romance, holiday celebrations and everything in between. Lee – Sep. 27

After making a splash at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, biographical drama Lee is finally getting a wide release. It stars Kate Winslet in a powerful depiction of the true story of Lee Miller, a photographer and model who became an esteemed war correspondent for Vogue during World War II.

 

The Wild Robot – Sep. 27

We're ready for DreamWorks Animation's The Wild Robot to be a real tearjerker. With a talented voice cast including Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal and Kit Connor, it tells the story of a brilliant robot called Roz who gets stranded on an island after a wreck, becoming friends with the local animal life and becoming a caretaker for an orphaned goose chick.

 

Bagman – Sep. 27

Horror lovers, prepare yourselves for a terrifying new tale in Bagman. The film stars Sam Claflin as a dad haunted by a monstrous threat from his childhood. The monster is known for eating nice children, but now that he's grown up, this father must face his fears to protect his whole family.

 

Joker: Folie à Deux – Oct. 4

Joaquin Phoenix's Joker was one of the biggest and most talked-about films of 2019, and in October, we'll get to see how the story unfolds next in Joker: Folie à Deux. It follows Arthur Fleck in Arkham Asylum for his crimes as the Joker, where he meets Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn and discovers the music within him. The film is partly a musical, and we're very curious to see how it all unfolds.

The Outrun – Oct. 4

We can always count on Irish actress Saoirse Ronan to deliver unforgettable, thought-provoking performances, and The Outrun looks to be yet another hit for the star. It follows Rona, a woman fresh out of rehab. After living in London for many years, she returns to her wildly idyllic hometown in Scotland, seeking peace and the chance to heal her difficult past.

 

Saturday Night – Oct. 11

Fans of the iconic sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live will want to check out Saturday Night, detailing the 90 minutes leading up to the first-ever broadcast of the show in 1975. Directed by Jason Reitman, the film also has a star-studded cast featuring Dylan O'Brien, Willem Dafoe, J.K. Simmons, Kaia Gerber, Finn Wolfhard and more as classic comedians you might recognize.

 

Piece by Piece – Oct. 11

We've seen plenty of biopics before, but none quite like Piece by Piece. The film tells the incredible story of Pharrell Williams, except told entirely through LEGO animation. It's a must-see for fans, and even casual listeners will be won over by the vibrant, colorful animation and playful storytelling.

We Live in Time – Oct. 18

We Live in Time looks like it's going to be a romance for the ages. It stars Andrew Garfield as Tobias, a recently divorced man and Florence Pugh as Almut, an up-and-coming chef, who meet by chance and get involved in an epic romance that unfolds over decades.

 

Smile 2 – Oct. 18

After the original Smile terrified us in 2022, we can't wait to be scared out of our seats in Smile 2 this October. The new film follows pop superstar Skye Riley (played by Naomi Scott) as she prepares for a world tour. Fame has already been taking its toll on her, but things get even worse as begins to experience unexplainable horrors—including the unnerving smiles of friends and strangers alike.

 

Venom: The Last Dance – Oct. 25

Fans of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and the titular Venom won't want to miss the final film in the trilogy, Venom: The Last Dance. This time around, the inseparable duo are on the run from earthy forces and symbiotes alike, and with no other options, the two will have to make a choice that forever changes things for them both.

Your Monster – Oct. 25

We've loved seeing new twists on horror romance over the last few years, and Your Monster has to be one of our most anticipated movies of the season. It stars Melissa Barrera as a young woman dealing with a painful breakup who discovers a scary but strangely endearing monster in her closet, played by Tommy Dewey. Over time, the two grow closer, creating a unique story about falling in love with the anger within.

 

A Real Pain -Nov. 1

Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg have an unbeatable dynamic that promises to make A Real Pain a winner. The movie follows cousins David and Benji, who couldn't be more different, as they meet up to tour Poland in honor of their grandmother. As tensions arise, their travels get a bit more hectic, to say the least.

 

Red One – Nov. 15

There's nothing quite like an action-packed Christmas flick, and they're arriving early this year with Red One's release on Nov. 15. The film stars Dwayne Johnson as the head of security at the North Pole, who must spring into action when Santa Claus is kidnapped. Alongside a notorious bounty hunter played by Chris Evans, the two will have to set aside their differences to travel the globe and save Christmas.

 

Wicked – Nov. 22

After being a beloved and critically acclaimed stage musical for nearly 20 years, Wicked is finally coming to the big screen. It follows the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, before she turned bad, telling an incredible story of friendship and heartbreak. We can already tell Cynthia Erivo is going to win our hearts as Elphaba, and Ariana Grande could not be more perfect in the role of Glinda.

 

Moana 2 – Nov. 22

Moana is easily one of our favorite Disney films of the last decade, and we can't wait to see what kinds of discoveries she makes in the sequel, dropping in November. This time around, Moana is drawn back to the sea by the call of her ancestors, sending her farther away from home than ever in order to find a secret island and break a curse threatening the region.

Y2K – Dec. 6

Those of us who lived through New Year's Eve 1999 know that Y2K wasn't the devastating event many anticipated it to be, but in the new movie, Y2K, we get a glimpse at what could have been. It's a unique horror comedy starring Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison and Rachel Zegler, following high schoolers ushering in the new millennium before the clock strikes 12 and everything starts going awry.

 

Kraven the Hunter – Dec. 13

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the debut of Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergeri Kravinoff, aka Kraven the Hunter, and this one looks good. Based on the iconic Marvel villain, it shows the origins of Kraven and the events that drove him to become the greatest hunter in the world.

 

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – Dec. 20

After being pleasantly surprised by the first two Sonic the Hedgehog movies, we're counting on this third installation to be a blast, with a bigger cast and a more expansive story than ever. This time around, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles must join forces against Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves), with even more surprises in store as Jim Carrey returns as Dr. Robotnik as well as a new character, his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik.

 

Mufasa: The Lion King – Dec. 20

And finally, before the end of the year, we'll also be revisiting the story of Mufasa to learn his origins in Mufasa: The Lion King. This CG-animated prequel follows a young Mufasa, an orphaned cub, who's taken in by the family of the young prince Taka, sharing the story of the brotherly bond they formed before a deadly rivalry set in.
