8 Big Tips for Dating a Pisces

It's officially Pisces season, running from about Feb. 19 to March 20, and if you've been feeling that dreamy and sensitive Pisces energy in the air, you definitely aren't alone.

If you're lucky enough to be crushing on a Pisces, those feelings may be even stronger, though you probably also know by now that the fish can be complex creatures. Yes, Pisces are known for being kind, nurturing and imaginative, but their natures can also make them a bit of a mystery to the more outgoing and dynamic signs of the zodiac. So, whether you're building up the courage to ask a Pisces out for the first time or simply looking for some advice to keep your relationship a harmonious one, keep scrolling to discover out biggest tips for dating Pisces.

Make the First Move

Not actually dating your Pisces crush yet? If you want to someday be an item, chances are that you'll have to be the one to make the first move, even if they like you, too. After all, Pisces tend to be shy, and they're overthinkers who are unlikely to take that leap of faith unless they're absolutely positive their feelings are reciprocated. They'd rather never know than act and mess up an existing friendship, so make your feelings known!

At the same time, we don't recommend going too big with a huge gesture or asking them out with any public pressure involved. Make your interest known in a more reserved way that gives them time to think and respond, and from there, don't try to push things along too quickly.

Be Ready for Something Serious

We recommend taking things slow with Pisces, because once feelings begin to flourish, Pisces tends to fall in love quickly and without hesitation. As people who can often feel at odds with the rest of the world, finally feeling accepted and cared for in a relationship is one of their favorite feelings, and it can start to feel as if you're the only two people in the world. Cherish and be careful with that powerful bond. If you're not ready for that kind of serious relationship, maybe you're not ready to date a Pisces. Be sure to set up expectations from the very beginning if you don't want to wind up breaking their heart.

Keep Them Grounded

The most successful Pisces relationships are usually the ones in which both partners help each other create balance. For example, they might benefit from being with someone who can keep them grounded, with one foot in the real world, while Pisces reminds them how to let loose and let their imagination run wild once in a while. Pisces also need the occasional reality check, and it takes the right empathetic approach to let them  down easy. On the flip side, Pisces will likely inspire you to be more flexible with their spontaneous creativity.

Don't Be Afraid to Express Yourself

No one has more empathy or compassion than a Pisces, and when it comes to your feelings and what you're dealing with every day, they'll be more than willing to lend a listening ear. However, they're often more happy in a position of sympathizing than actually offering up advice, as their emotion-driven approach sometimes steers people in the wrong direction.

Avoid bottling up your emotions, because Pisces usually have a powerful sense of intuition that tells them something is wrong, even if you feel you're hiding it well. Don't keep them guessing. Letting them know what's bugging you prevents them from jumping to conclusions and worrying themselves over nothing in the process.

Of course, this is a two way street, and if you're a frequent venter, you should also be an occasional ventee. Also, be mindful of what Pisces already has on their emotional plate before you unload. If it's clear they're already feeling overstimulated, it may be best to give them sometime before you add to the mental pile.

Keep Their Sensitivity in Mind

Pisces are sensitive souls, and while this doesn't mean you need to walk on eggshells around them, we do recommend that you keep their feelings in mind for the healthiest kind of communication. For example, rather than flirting by teasing them, try a more complimentary and sincere approach.

While some people may like being playfully mocked, giving them a sense of familiarity and closeness, Pisces are likely to take these jests seriously. If they have anything to do with a real insecurity, they'll view it as passive-aggressive critique, and even if it's something that doesn't really apply to them, they'll start to believe that it does. Just be real and kind, instead of making them self-conscious in an attempt to be light and silly.

Lighten Up

Speaking of light and silly, that's precisely the vibe that attracts Pisces. They generally prefer when things are too serious, especially when they don't have to be, so don't afraid to try to make them laugh. Figure out their sense of humor and implement it whenever you can to turn boring or tedious situations into fun ones. Also open yourself up to the unexpected. Pisces don't usually concern themselves with things that are considered "grown-up" or expected of them, so try embracing your inner child with them and letting go.

Respect Their Space

Another way Pisces can feel like a walking contradiction  is their need for space. While they can be quite clingy, sometimes wanting to spend every waking second with their S.O., other times their shyness and introversion take over and they need their personal space and some time in order to recharge. Because they soak up other people's energy so easily, they're often overstimulated and lean into escapism. This doesn't mean they don't care about you or want to be with you, just that some alone time will help them get back to their regular self much faster.

You may also find that when they're overwhelmed they do want to spend time together, but engaged in a kind of parallel pay. This might hanging out together, whether quietly or with some music or a show on in the background, while you both do activities like crafts, reading or even scrolling on your phone.

Be Romantic

Pisces tend to be hopeless romantics, and most are well-versed in all of the classic love stories. Their expectations have been set pretty high by fiction, so chances are that they've been pretty let down by their real-life relationships in the past. We're not saying you need to sweep Pisces off their feet all the time and become a rom-com protagonist, but treating them right can go a long way.

Remember to compliment them often, especially when it comes to who they are on the inside, and remind them regularly just how important they are to you. Go on dates where you can both be creative together, or indulge in comfy and dreamy activities like spa days and dessert tastings. Surprise them on occasion with a special treat. Basically, Pisces give a lot in their relationships, and they deserve just as much back in return.
