Winter Beauty Trends We’re Looking Forward to in 2023

While the weather outside may be frightful this time of year, winter also brings with it some wonders that are worthy of a little extra love.

One such wonder is winter beauty trends, which can differ greatly from the looks we see through every other season. So, which trends do we have to look forward to this year? We trudged through TikTok and other internet sources to find the best ones so that you can look through them all here—no snow boots required.

'Balletcore'

Soft pinks and pastels may seem more like a springtime favorite, but "Balletcore" is taking over the beauty realm for winter 2023. We're loving every bit of it, from tulip pink blushes to slicked-back ponytails with silk ribbons and, of course, nails the color of ballet slippers. It's a subtle look that's easy to incorporate into your every day, making it the perfect trend for lazy girls and trend-lovers alike.

Pumpkin Spice Still on the Rise

Looking for the perfect trend to transition your beauty routine from fall to winter? Look no further than the pumpkin spice trend, which isn't going anywhere as we work our way into the coldest months of the year. Just like how Starbucks keeps their beloved PSL on the menu even when the holiday red cups come out, pumpkin spice makeup is well worth investing in even for winter. The warm and cozy colors are especially great because they work well for all eye colors, making blue eyes look brighter while also highlighting the many tones of brown eyes.

Cool Jewel Tones

Jewel tones are great for your winter wardrobe, but they're also making waves for winter beauty as well this season. Cooler tones—think emerald greens, sapphire blues and amethyst purples—in particular are on the rise for 2023, as these colors lean more towards a wintery feel than the summery nature of hot ruby reds and sunny yellows. Eyeshadow is one of the easiest ways to incorporate these tones into your look this winter, especially for any big holiday parties you may be attending. Winter formal, anyone?

Latte Makeup (Reheated)

Most of us remember when "oat latte eyes" took the world (or at least our TikTok feeds) by storm, but winter 2023 is seeing the trend come back in a bigger and better way. This season, the latte look is going beyond the eyes and warming up the rest of the face as well with bronzed cheeks, deep-toned lips and beautiful brown shades all around. Think of it as a more natural version of the overdone contours we've seen in years past, this time with more emphasis on highlighting natural beauty and keeping a summer glow going well past fall and all through winter.

Vampy, Not-Quite-Goth Lips

We're used to seeing beauty trends take a darker turn during the colder months, and this trend really speaks to that seasonal shift in the boldest of ways. Deep, dark-toned lips are big for winter 2023, taking on a vampy style that takes a hint from goth-inspired looks that we've seen before. Think dark liner, purple-ish hues and generally bolder-than-you'd-go-for-summer lips, but with a contemporary shine that still speaks to 2023 style. If you're looking for a way to easily incorporate this trend into your roster of go-to beauty looks without going too overboard, try a gentle, cool-toned mocha shade that still packs a punch of natural shine like this Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump from Tarte in the shade mocha ($24).

Bolder-Than-Ever-Before Lashes

While we've seen a shift towards more natural makeup in terms of our eyes and faces in recent times, eye-catching lashes aren't going anywhere. In fact, lashes are only getting bigger and bolder in 2023, with spidery looks taking over during the fall that we're expecting to see continue well past winter. No need to practice your false lash-application skills to make this look work for you, either, as the look can be achieved by layering on mascara in a way that almost gets clumpy while keeping lashes as long as possible. Bakeup's Tarantulash mascara ($27) is a favorite of makeup artists and beauty lovers everywhere for incorporating this trend into everyday makeup and special event looks alike.

Minimalist Makeup With Bright Blush

"No makeup makeup" is bigger than ever in 2023, and we're even seeing creators all over TikTok talk about the stark difference between today's beauty trends and the intense, overdone makeup we saw back in 2016. While we're all trying to create that perfectly airbrushed, woke-up-like-this flawless face (by using six or more products, of course), winter 2023 is adding on something extra: bright blush. Think flushed cheeks that make it look like you just came inside after a snowstorm, giving you a warm and delicate look that never leans too far into being "too much" thanks to the balance of minimalistic makeup across the rest of your face.
