How to Throw the Perfect Birthday Party for a Family Member While in Quarantine

Thanks to coronavirus, our lives have basically been put on hold.

From sporting events, to school dances and even graduations, some will never attend these monumental rites of passage. During these strange times, some of your loved ones might have birthdays, which, in all honesty, sucks. However, it's important to show them how much you care by throwing the best party, given the current situation.

Need some help? Keep scrolling for some of our ideas on how to throw the perfect birthday party for a family member while in quarantine (without leaving your house).

1. Decorate Their Room

Order streamers, balloons and more to decorate their room on their special day. Try to stick with a theme—that way, it'll look cohesive when they post on their Instagram story. We think they'd appreciate waking up to a bunch of balloons floating over their head… what a fun surprise!

2. Bake Them a Cake

Nothing says "I love you" quite like a homemade cake. And if you're worried about your baking skills, don't fret! You'll be able to bake a cake with the help of Pinterest and a cake starter kit. Be sure to get this done the night before their birthday so they can have it for breakfast.

3. Make Them a Movie

We're willing to bet you have thousands of pictures and videos of your family member, so why not make a homemade movie out of it? All you have to do is upload your favorite ones to iMovie and set some music in the background. It doesn't need to be anything professional, just seeing their life on screen will be enough.

4. Create the Perfect Playlist

It will be super important to keep their spirits up, because they'll likely feel a little down. After all, they won't be able to go anywhere or hang out with their friends on their special day. Create an upbeat playlist to keep them happy and dancing throughout the day.

5. Set Up a Surprise Drive-By Party

If you really want to make their day, contact all of their friends and set up a surprise party. Don't worry, social distancing will be put to use! Basically, everyone will stay in their own cars and drive up in a line to your house, dropping off presents and well wishes. Your family member will totally cry.

6. Schedule a Zoom Party

For those who can't make the trek to your house, schedule a Zoom call! It's super easy to do—even grandparents can figure it out! During the zoom party, have everyone discuss their favorite memory of the birthday person. It's sure to bring lots of laughter and joy!

7. Order Their Favorite Food

To finish off their birthday night, order their favorite food for them. Whether it's a fast-food restaurant or from a fancy steakhouse, they'll appreciate the generosity you put into their special day. By giving their taste buds a treat, they'll love you forever and be thankful for such a fun birthday.
