This Pitch-Black Starbucks Drink Is the Polar Opposite of the Unicorn Frap

Now that Starbucks' Unicorn Frappuccino is off the menu, it's time for the next big thing.

With everyone drooling over brilliantly colored beverages, I decided to go in the opposite direction and seek out a pitch-black Starbucks drink. I couldn't exactly order one from Starbucks, so here's how I did it.

Black Starbucks Frappuccino ingredients

I started off by ordering a Double Chocolately Chip Frappuccino from Starbucks. Of course, you're free to order a more caffeinated beverage if that's your thing!  Before I could make my perfect black drank, I needed a couple more things:

  • A can of whipped cream
  • Black or dark brown sprinkles (crushed sandwich cookies also work)
  • Food-grade activated charcoal

I also needed an extra glass and a tea spoon for scooping, as well as a big spoon for stirring.

I started by scraping off the whipped cream from the original frap and pouring half the drink into the extra glass. Next, I scooped a little less than a teaspoon of the activated charcoal in before stirring thoroughly. You don't need much to get a very dark color!

Little by little, I poured the rest of the chocolately drink back into the Starbucks cup, stirring the whole time. At the end of the process, I was left with a very black beverage.

Next up, I topped it off with whipped cream and my chocolate sprinkles.

And last but definitely not least, I topped it off with the classic Starbucks lid and straw.

The finished product was a sight to behold. Best of all, the activated charcoal didn't affect the taste at all. It was just as chocolately and sweet as it had been before. Not as colorful as the Unicorn Frappuccino, but I think I liked it even better.
