Everything You Need to Know About Brow Lamination, According to an Expert
If you like to stay up-to-date on all of the latest trends in the beauty world, you've come to the right place.
Lately, beauty pros and amateurs have been absolutely raving about brow lamination. We've seen it all over our social media feeds and wanted to learn all there is to know. We were lucky enough to speak with international brow stylist and founder of Brow Code, Melanie Marris. Keep reading for our full Q&A with her on all things brow lamination.
Sweety High: What is brow lamination?
Melanie Marris: Brow lamination is a trend that has completely taken off in the beauty industry, and I can see why! Eyebrow lamination essentially lifts, fluffs and fills out the brows by manipulating the hair in a new direction. People (including myself) love it because it provides that sought-after fluffy brow runway model look. This is why brow lamination has hit the beauty scene by storm and it is now a must-have treatment.
SH: What are the benefits?
MM: Brow lamination is amazing because it's a painless and non-invasive technique that makes your brows look thicker and fuller. It's a great alternative to micro-blading if you're a bit wary of turning towards the semi-permanent option. After getting your brows laminated, you will have a very sleek look. If you have curly and unruly brows or seem to have gaps or lack of shape, then lamination could be for you. The technique of course works on all types of hair, but if you do have some brow concerns, lamination is the way to go and there's no doubt you'll be obsessed with the results.
SH: Are there any cons?
MM: Brow lamination can be drying on the hair. Not every person who gets their brows laminated will experience dryness. It all comes down to the person and the way their brow hair and skin reacts to the treatment. We have created our Brow Gold Oil ($49.90), specifically for this concern. Applying the Brow Gold every night to the brows will help re-nourish the hairs and prevent any drying of the hair. This product is 100% natural and has all the essential oils for enhancing brow health.
SH: What is the typical price of getting your brows professionally laminated?
MM: There are a few factors that come into play when professionals price their services. Every eyebrow technician is different—it comes down to your client base, where the studio is located, your brand and your target demographic. Factors such as experience and styling skills will all impact the cost of lamination. However, the Brow Code lamination service sits around $60 to $106.
SH: What sets you apart from the rest? Why is your product better?
MM: Brow Code is a world leader in professional and retail products. Combining this with my 17 years of experience in the industry, I've really been able to focus on this unique market and work towards formulating innovative and unique brow products.
Our lamination is Italian made, so you know the quality you're receiving is going to be premium and absolute luxury. I've tried and tested our formulations on all my clients, and they are obsessed with the results just as much as I am. Our lamination has been formulated to create the perfect product for long-lasting and effective results. Results will last six to eight weeks.
SH: Tell us about the at-home brow lamination kit
MM: The at-home brow lamination kit ($175) has absolutely everything consumers and brow code fanatics need to achieve that fluffy and voluminous eyebrow look. This luxury touch up kit comes with three easy-to-use steps, which include the perming solution, fixing solution, and keratin nourish. It's the best product to use in between appointments with your professional eyebrow stylist. If you're wanting to achieve a more bold and enhanced result, then our lamination kit is incredible used in conjunction with our Tints. You can use the tint in between steps two and three for the best results.
SH: Can anyone do it? How hard is it?
MM: We've designed this kit for the everyday user who loves playing around with DIY beauty products. I totally understand that some people may be a bit nervous about giving it a go the first time, but we've put together in-depth, step-by-step tutorials to help with this.
SH: How often do you need to do it?
MM: Results last anywhere between six to eight weeks. I don't recommend using this kit or laminating the brows before the eight-week mark. This can cause the brows to become dry and brittle! But, of course you can always use our Brow Gold Oil to help with this. Also, following the correct aftercare is super important.
SH: Anything else we should know?
MM: After laminating your brows, the new shape can take up to 48 hours for the bonds to lock into place and cure. This is why it's super important to follow the correct aftercare! Simple things like keeping the brows dry and not applying makeup, Retin-A, AHA to the brow area post-treatment are a must. On top of this, I have specifically formulated our Brow Gold Oil to be used after lamination to replenish moisture and hydrate the brow hairs. This is a super nourishing product that is rich in hair growth properties and it's one of our bestsellers. I'd recommend applying this daily.
