bugAboo Dish on Their Triumphant Comeback With Single-Album Pop

After debuting last October with their self-titled single album, K-pop girl group bugAboo is back and better than ever with their new single album, POP.

Led by the title track of the same name, this single album is all about infectious hooks and high-energy sounds designed to get you moving, with lyrics comparing the most thrilling moments of life to the explosive nature of popping candy. We got to ask the group's talented ladies all about their comeback and what these songs mean to them—and we've also included their original responses in Korean below the English translation!

Sweety High: How has the group evolved since your debut single album?

Choyeon: I think we improved on our powerful performance and strong teamwork. We tried to evolve as a team from a few weaknesses from the previous album, so please look forward to our future activities!

Yoona: For our debut track, "bugAboo," we focused on our girl crush aspects to match the song's vibe. For POP, we want to show more various aspects that are both cheerful and powerful. We'll show you our colorful charms like a popping candy!

SH: Have you encountered any big surprises since your debut?

Choyeon: I was surprised at our first fan sign event with Rainboo because that's when I realized that I was loved by so many people. Also, it motivated me to become an artist who can return all the love that Rainboo has given me.

Rainie: I was so touched when we did video calls with fans during our debut promotions. There were many international fans joining us, and I remember that there was an international fan who was crying and thanking us for cheering her up. I just wanted to hug that fan at that time. I was thankful to know that we could share such positive and cheerful energy with other people.

Eunchae: I think the most memorable moment was when our music got into the daily top chart. I got the news when I was in a practice room with a staff, and I was so happy and couldn't believe the news! I hope to set a new record for ourselves with this album.

Can you tell us about the two songs on the new single album? What new sides of the group and your talents do they show off?

Cyan: In our new single album, there is a title track "POP" and a b-side track "Easy Move." Through these two tracks, we will show you our powerful performances, unique vocals, fresh charms, and unstoppable energy!

Zin: Both tracks have significantly addictive beats and melodies, but their styles are different so you can feel our powerful and feminine sides in this album!

 

What are the most important messages in these new songs?

Cyan: We wish to share freedom and freshness through "POP," and promote a hopeful message of "anyone can do anything" with "Easy Move."

Choyeon: I want to share an inviting message of getting out of boring daily life and finding new answers with bugAboo.

Zin: I want to show how mesmerizing bugAboo can be and we shine in various colors on and off from stages!

Cyan: Rainboo, thank you so much for waiting for us! We know you've been waiting for us a long time, so we promise to do our best with this new album. Thank you and love you always ♡

Yoona: Thank you for waiting for bugAboo for seven months. We could come back because you never forgot about us. Thank you so much, and I've missed you a lot!

Choyeon: Thank you for supporting and waiting for our seven-month hiatus. We'll perform beyond your expectations, so I hope you keep watching and supporting our activities!

Zin: Thank you for your patience with our long hiatus. We'll work hard to meet your expections, so please stay with bugAboo for a long time!

저번 싱글앨범보다 달라진 모습이 있다면 어떤 부분인가요?

초연) 더 파워풀하고 강렬해진 퍼포먼스, 또 저번보다 더 끈끈해진 팀워크라고 생각합니다. 지난 활동에서 아쉬웠던 점들을 보완해 더 멋있는 모습 보여드리려고 많이 노력했으니 지켜봐주세요!

유우나) 데뷔곡 'bugAboo'는 곡의 분의기에 맞게 걸크러시한 모습을 무대 위에서 많이 보여드렸지만,이번 'POP에서는 마냥 밝지만은 않고 그렇다고 엄청 세지도 않은 다채로운 모습을 보여드리고 싶습니다. 팝핑캔디처럼 컬러풀한 매력을 많이 보여드릴게요!

 

데뷔 이후 기억에 남을만큼 깜짝 놀란 적이 있나요?

초연) 처음으로 레인부와 팬싸인회를 했을 때 깜짝 놀랐습니다. 내가 이렇게나 사랑 받는 사람이구나를 느꼈고 사랑을 받는 만큼 나도 레인부에게 받은 사랑을 돌려줄 수 있는 아티스트가 되어야겠다고 생각했습니다.

레이니) 데뷔 활동 영통 팬싸인회를 했을 때 많은 해외 팬분들이 자주 와주셔서 너무 감동받았습니다. 특히 해외 팬분이 우리 덕분에 많이 밝아졌다고 울면서 얘기했는데 너무 안아주고 싶었고, 저희도 다른 사람들에게 좋은 에너지를 줄 수 있구나는 생각이 들어서 너무 감사했고 더 기억에 남았습니다.

은채) 가장 기억에 남는 일은 음원 차트에 진입한 일인데요! 직원 분이랑 연습실에 같이 있다가 그 소식을 전해 들었는데, 기분이 너무 좋아서 믿기지 않았어요! 이번 앨범에서는 더 좋은 성적을 받고 싶습니다.

 

새 싱글앨범에 수록된 두 트랙에 관해 더 설명해주세요. 제목은 무엇이며, 이 두 곡을 통해 그룹의 어떤 새로운 모습 또는 실력을 보여줄 예정인가요?

시안) 저희 싱글앨범에는 타이틀 곡인 POP과 수록곡 Easy Move가 있는데요, 이 곡들을 통해 저희의 파워풀한 퍼포먼스와 독보적인 가창력을 보여드릴 예정이고, 청량한 모습과 지치지 않는 에너지를 보여드릴 예정입니다!

지인) 또, 두 곡 모두 중독되는 비트와 멜로디가 인상적인데, 다른 스타일의 곡으로 강렬함과 여성스러움을 느끼실 수 있습니다!

싱글앨범 수록곡들을 통해 전하고 싶은 메세지가 있다면 무엇인가요?

시안) 저희 곡을 들어보시면 POP에는 자유로움, 청량함을 전하고 싶고, Easy Move에서는 '누구든 해낼 수 있다'는 희망찬 메세지를 전하고 싶습니다.

초연) 저희 버가부와 틀에 박힌 일상에서 벗어나 새로운 답을 찾아가자는 메시지를 레인부들과 많은 분들께 전하고 싶습니다.

지인) 우리 버가부가 이렇게 사람을 홀리고 빠져들게 만들 수 있다! 무대 위에서든 아래에서든 여러가지의 색으로 빛난다고 말씀드리고 싶습니다!

 

팬들에게 하고 싶은 말이 있나요?

시안) 우리 레인부, 먼저 오랜 시간동안 기다려주셔서 정말 감사합니다! 우리 레인부가 오랫동안 기다려 준 만큼 저희도 아주 멋진 모습으로 활동할테니 기대 많이 해주세요! 항상 고맙고 사랑해요 ♡
