Sweet Magnolias Actor Carson Rowland Bares His Soul in New Track ‘Paranoid’
If you know Carson Rowland best as Ty from Netflix's Sweet Magnolias, you're definitely not alone—but acting is far from the only thing Carson has going on.
Carson is also a talented musician, and the music video for his latest single, "Paranoid," shows off a sensitive side of the star that most of us haven't seen before. With a danceable beat and revealing lyrics, it really shows us what Carson is capable of. We had to get to know more about this track, so we went straight to Carson to find out what it's about and why it's so significant.
Sweety High: What was the recording process like for "Paranoid"?
Carson Rowland: The recording process was such a creative experience. We actually wrote the second verse in the studio, and now it's my favorite part of the song. It constantly amazes me what happens when you put a bunch of creative and passionate people together in a studio.
SH: What does the song mean to you?
CR: This song means more to me than any of my previous work. It's an autobiography of sorts, and it's very personal. It's extremely metaphorical—good luck deciphering!
SH: Do you have any tips for dealing with the paranoia of feeling like you're always being judged and have to present a perfect version of yourself?
CR: My answer is cliché, and I hate clichés—and I know that in and of itself is cliché! But nonetheless, be yourself. Learn about yourself first. You need to be introspective before you can "be yourself."
SH: Many fans probably know you best as an actor. What inspired you to branch out into music? Have you always been a musical person?
CR: I've always loved music, and have been playing instruments since I was six. Music is another language of expression for me, and I love how personal I can make it.
SH: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
CR: Eden and Jeremy Zucker
SH: Is there anything else you want your fans to know?
CR: I know 2020 is wild. But stay safe, and we will get through this!
