Catch the Young Take Risks in Latest Mini-Album, Fragments of Odyssey

Earlier this spring, Korean band Catch the Young released their second mini album, Catch the Young: Fragments of Odyssey. The album marks a significant milestone for the group as they continue to captivate audiences with their unique blend of music and storytelling. This release is a continuation of their debut mini-album, Catch The Young: Fragments of Youth, which garnered widespread acclaim just four months prior.

We recently had the opportunity to chat with the members of Catch The Young to discuss their preparations for this highly anticipated comeback. Read all about it in our interview below.

Sweety High: What themes are woven into the lyrics of Catch The Young's title track, "Voyager"? How do they resonate with the band's overall artistic vision?

SANI: Our new work delves into the self-doubt and hesitation we all experience, conveying that there's no wrong choice when it comes to decisions. It reflects the uniqueness and vision Catch The Young aims to pursue.

NAMHYUN: "Voyager" has a calmer vibe, aspiring for hope and offering comfort to listeners. We want everyone to fully enjoy the present, the most youthful time of their lives.

JUNGMO: The song metaphorically expresses that while we are different, we are essentially the same. It reflects the idea of embracing diverse perspectives to move forward on our chosen path.

SH: If Catch The Young's Fragments of Odyssey was a movie soundtrack, which blockbuster film genre or scene do you think it would perfectly complement? Why?

SANI: Our music would suit an adventure film, especially one based on a video game. The song "The Legend" pairs well with a story of overcoming challenges with friends.

NAMHYUN: "The Legend" would be ideal for an action movie, evoking an urgent, intense feeling perfect for scenes like police pursuits.

JUNGMO: The playful and adventurous spirit of our album aligns with the opening of The Pirates of the Caribbean, capturing the essence of embarking on a thrilling journey.

JUNYONG: A fantasy action film would best complement our grand and intense rock tracks, creating an epic cinematic experience.

SH: Which band member's musical style or personality shines the brightest on the title track "Voyager?" How does their flair add depth and dimension to the song?

SANI: Parts like the intro and interlude, where the bass plays the melody, reflect my presence in the track.

JUNGMO: Sani's confident decision-making and open-mindedness are well integrated into "Voyager."

NAMHYUN: I feel I suited this song well, conveying my optimistic thoughts and sincere hopefulness through the music.

SH: Imagine Catch The Young's music as a portal to a different dimension. What kind of fantastical world or adventure do you envision their sound transporting listeners to?

SANI: Our music leads to beginnings and adventures, hinting at exciting content ahead for listeners.

NAMHYUN: Stepping into a world of endless possibilities, akin to the thrilling and comforting realm of Zootopia.

JUNGMO: Embarking on an adventure to rediscover lost emotions, like seeking the lost city of Atlantis.

 

SH: Can you share any behind-the-scenes anecdotes or quirky stories from the making of Fragments of Odyssey?

KIHOON: It was refreshing working on "Voyager" with Sani and Jungmo, creating a fun experience.

NAMHYUN: Recording the chorus together was hilarious, with various voices trying not to go off-key.

JUNYONG: Singing together in front of a single microphone was a memorable experience, trying not to burst into laughter.

JUNGMO: Overcoming differences in musical perspectives and blending our distinct styles enriched our work. One fun moment was unexpectedly recording the chorus together and feeling satisfied with the result.

SH: Is there anything else you would like to add or highlight about your new mini-album or your journey as a band that we haven't touched upon yet?

SANI: Our album captures the harmonization of our roles as a band, showcasing both the process and the result.

KIHOON: We aim to keep growing and sharing our music with the world, striving to become a globally loved band.

NAMHYUN: We aspire to tour the world and perform as a band, continuing our journey towards international recognition.

JUNYONG: Our adventure with Catch The Young is ongoing, presenting new music and performances. We appreciate the support and love from our fans.

JUNGMO: We aim to open the door to the era of bands, challenging the demand for K-band music and paving the way for Korean bands to shine.
