Stranger Things‘ Chloe Adona Talks Playing 009 and Celebrating Millie Bobby Brown’s Birthday

Spoiler alert: If you're not yet caught up on the latest season of Stranger Things, you may want to turn back now, because this whole interview is a bit of a spoiler!

That's because 13-year-old actress Chloe Adona played 009, one of the test subjects who grew up in Hawkins Lab alongside Eleven. In the new season, Eleven must confront her past, reliving her terrifying experiences—and the events that transpired in the Rainbow Room—in order to explore the loss of her powers. She sees her tragic childhood in the form of distorted flashbacks, with the lab populated with other children like her, with only numbers for names—including 009.

And we got the chance to chat with Chloe all about her experience on set, her love of the show and how exciting it was to celebrate Millie Bobby Brown's birthday with her. Keep reading to find out everything she shared with us.

Sweety High: Had you watched Stranger Things at all before winning the role of 009?

Chloe Adona: Yes, I was a fan of the show when it first came out in 2016! I watched all of it. Prior to going on set, we were required to do a five-day quarantine. My mom had never seen it, so we watched all three seasons while in quarantine.

SH: What did it mean to you to know you were acting in a huge series with so many fans around the world?

CA: It was so rewarding to book a role in such a big series. It means the world to me to know I'm part of Stranger Things. It felt surreal when I was told I booked this job. I'm just so grateful I had this opportunity come my way.

 

SH: The test subjects at Hawkins Lab lived lives that were both scary and tragic. How did you get into Nine's head to play her?

CA: I had to really understand 009's life in the lab along with the other test subjects. She's a kid that has never known the normals of the outside world. So I stepped into her shoes and completely threw out any sign of Chloe, and became 009.

 

SH: Do you have a favorite memory from the shoot?

CA: Yes! We shot through Millie [Bobby Brown]'s 17th birthday. On set, there was a mini birthday float that rolled around in between takes. It was such an uplifting, exciting day.

SH: If you had a special superpower, what do you think it would be?

CA: I do love the fan-made comics where 009 had the ability to form fire, but a dream superpower of mine would be to read and control minds. That would be my ideal superpower for 009.

CA: This series has such an amazing fanbase, and they have welcomed myself and the other numbers in such a supportive and loving way! I wish that I could respond to every comment and message on social, but just know that I read everything you all send my way. So thank you!
