cignature Share the Themes of Young Love on Their New Sweetie but Saltie Mini-Album
Last summer, we fell in love with cignature's mini-album, Us in the Summer, and this year, they're back in a big way with a fifth mini-album, Sweetie but Saltie.
Sweetie but Saltie is a playful K-pop collection of four songs about the trills of falling in love, starting with the title track, "풍덩 (Poongdung)," the Korean word for making a big splash. The track represents a confident approach to young love. Next come two versions of "I like I like" in both Korean and English, professing the sensations of being in love for the first time, before concluding with "Melody," a song reflecting on the past while expressing excitement about what they'll be able to achieve musically in the future. We had the pleasure of catching up with the group to learn more about the new EP in the interview below.

Sweety High: What does the mini-album name Sweetie but Saltie mean to the group? Why was that the perfect name for this collection of songs?
JEEWON: Did you know that saltiness makes you instinctively demand a sweeter taste? I think it was an interesting way to express the reason why people will have no choice but to keep being drawn to cignature by comparing it to a taste. The title also helped us explore more diverse charms within ourselves while preparing for this album!
CHLOE: I think the title Sweetie but Saltie is perfect since it's an album that contains both the sweet and salty feelings you feel when you're in love.

SH: What was the inspiration behind the title track "풍덩 (Poongdung)"? Why did it feel just like the song to kick off the summer season?
SELINE: "Poongdung" was inspired by summer, and the lyrics are made up of the first words and sentences that would come to one's mind when thinking of summer. I believe it is a perfect song to announce the season.

CHAESOL: When you think of summer, the image of "splashing" into a pool or the ocean immediately comes up. I think it's a sound that goes well with summer because it makes you resonate with the fresh, refreshing vibe of the season.

SH: "I like I like" has an English version—your first English track to date. Was that a challenging experience for you? Why did you want to sing a song in English?
SELINE: We have been wanting to release an English song for international signfans, and I'm so glad we took the opportunity to release it. Since English is not my native language, I paid more attention to whether there were any awkward parts when singing.
JEEWON: I was worried that it wouldn't be perfect since it's not my native language, but our member CHLOE helped us a lot, making the recording process much smoother. There are various reasons for creating an English track, and one of them is that we thought that making a short-form challenge with an English song would allow more people around the world to enjoy our song.

CHAESOL: We are back with the new song "Poongdung," and I feel encouraged by our beloved fans and their patience. Thank you, and I love you all. Please continue to support us!
