Coachella 2022 Hair Trends to Look Forward to, According to a Celebrity Hairstylist

If you're wondering what hair trends are going to be popular at Coachella in 2022, you've come to the right place!

We spoke with our favorite celeb hairstylist, Andrew Fitzsimons, and he answered all of our most pressing questions. With clients like the Kardashians-Jenners, Megan Fox, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Barbie Ferreira, Alexa Demie and more, he knows what he's doing.

Continue below for our full interview with Andrew Fitzsimons, where he tells us all about the hairstyles and trends to expect at Coachella in 2022!

Sweety High: What are you most excited about at Coachella this year, whether you're watching on social media or are going yourself?

Andrew Fitzsimons: Each year Coachella acts as the groundswell for bold hair, fashion and makeup looks. Festivals generally are a place where people feel comfortable experimenting with their looks, and after two years of no in-person shows, I'm excited to see how creative people get (especially in the era of Euphoria).

SH: Braids always seem to be a big thing at Coachella. Do you think they will be big again this year?

AF: Braids are a festival go-to trend, so it's no surprise to see them make a comeback this year at Coachella. Braids are easy to style and can elevate any hairstyle. What's more, they work great to keep frizz at bay and hair out of your face when you're amidst large crowds.

SH: What about hair accessories? Which ones can we expect to see?

AF: I definitely anticipate that the revival of Y2 style and the rise of TikTok-driven trends will influence Coachella Festival looks. A few popular accessories we're likely to see include:

Claw Clips: These clips come in a wide range of colors and designs, making it even easier to find one that suits your festi fit seamlessly. They can be styled in a variety of ways, from a messy bun to a half-up, half-down look.

Butterfly Clips: These little clips bring a big personality to any hair look. Even adding two clips (one on each side) is enough to change your whole look. You can use them to keep bangs out of your face, create a half-up/half-down hairstyle, or enhance the length of a braid. They're great for framing your face.

Bandanas/Head Scarves: They can be worn in a variety of ways, including folded into a triangle and wrapped around your head. For a Y2K vibe, throw on some slim sunglasses and let your hair down. You can also make a headband out of the fabric by twisting it into a small strip.

Hair Glitter: We've been seeing spray-in hair glitter all over our social feeds, and there's no doubt you'll see it all over the festival grounds this year. Hair glitter is a great way to add an extra bit of sparkle to your look and is relatively easy to wash out.

Hair Tinsel: This '90s hair accessory has made a big comeback and we will likely see it in the Coachella Valley this year. Tinsel adds a pop of color to your hair without using any chemicals. Hair tinsel installation can be done at a salon or at home and is fairly easy.

SH: What hairstyles are going to be trending this year?

AF: Soft easy curls, two front braids, flipped ponytail ends, and long braided hair are some of the hairstyles that are popular this year.

A ponytail braid is festival-proof, regardless of your hair type. Before styling, prep strands with a holding gel—make sure to leave the ends undone if you're going for a boho look.

This braided style may be fashioned in a variety of ways and is suitable for all hair types. This is a simple way to frame your face.

SH: For someone doing their own hair that wants to keep it out of the way, how should they style it?

AF: Sleek ponytails, french braids and accessories including clips and headbands/headscarves are all simple ways to keep your hair out of your face.

SH: Can you give us a step-by-step breakdown of achieving your favorite hairstyle for Coachella in 2022?

AF: The braided half updo is a great boho-chic hairstyle that will keep hair out of your eyes while you dance.

Step 1: Use a curling iron to curl your hair and then brush it out to create loose bohemian waves. Take two thin strands of hair from the crown of your head and braid them halfway down your back. Repeat on the opposite side of your head, resulting in four half-braided hair pieces, two on each side of your head.

Step 2: Using the ends of the four braids you just made, begin a fishtail braid down the center of your head. Take a tiny bit of the left piece's back and wrap it over the top of the right piece. Then take a little part of the right piece's back and wrap it around it.

Step 3: Continue with step 2 until you run out of hair, then bind the braid with a band at the end. Toss in a few flowers as a finishing touch.

SH: Anything else you'd like to add?

AF: Go all out with accessories, braids and hairstyles of all kinds for Coachella. I would suggest choosing a hairstyle that compliments your style and personality while adding a Boho-chic twist.
