5 Standout Moments from Coachella 2023, Weekend One

Just like that, Weekend One of Coachella 2023 is already over.

This year saw exciting, historic performances from Bad Bunny and BLACKPINK; festival debuts of Jackson Wang, UMI and more; and long-anticipated returns to the stage by blink-182, Blondie and Frank Ocean.

If you weren't able to attend this year's first weekend of Coachella, here's our round-up of highlights from the festival.

1. Bad Bunny Makes History

Bad Bunny closed out day one of Coachella with a historic performance as the first Latino and Spanish-language headliner. Over the course of 25 songs, the reggaeton icon traversed X 100PRE to Un Verano Sin Ti, with interludes of a Cardi B cover and guest performances from Post Malone, Jhayco and Jowell & Randy.

At the height of a monumental moment, Bad Bunny shouted to the crowd, "What do you prefer: me talking in English or hablando español?" symbolically calling out pressure to conform to American standards.

2. BLACKPINK x BTS Meet-Up—Kinda

Much like Bad Bunny, K-pop titans BLACKPINK marked a milestone of their own as the first Korean act to headline the music festival. In a two-hour performance, BLACKPINK "Shut Down" day two of Coachella with a setlist packed with their greatest hits, energetic choreography and signature black and pink outfits.

BLACKPINK easily accumulated one of the largest crowds in Coachella history, even bringing in Jungkook of BTS. Time will tell if Jungkook was just supporting his K-pop peers, or perhaps a groundbreaking collaboration is in the works.
