Coco Quinn Reveals Why She Was Inspired to Record a Cover of Madison Beer’s ‘Baby’
Coco Quinn may be just 12 years old, but she has an incredible singing voice, and when we heard that she'd covered Madison Beer's gorgeous "Baby," we knew we were in for a treat.
And it turns out that the music video is just as captivating as the song itself. Filmed in a life-sized pink dollhouse, there's a surreal quality to the whole thing, enhancing the dream-like track.
We had to find out what inspired this cover, and the music video, and we got the chance to ask Coco herself all about both.
Sweety High: What inspired you to cover Madison Beer's "Baby?"
Coco Quinn: I just think she has a beautiful voice. I really love her music, and her videos are so creative.
SH: What is it about the song that resonated with you and made you want to share your own take on the track?
CQ: It gave me a sense of girl power. It's a good reminder to make sure you know your worth.
SH: What was it like to film the music video?
CQ: I wanted something really cute, fun and colorful. I really loved the location that we filmed at, RagDoll Pink Palace. It's like a life-sized dollhouse. The walls are pink and red, which are my favorite colors, with a vintage style theme and lots of fun props. It was also fun filming TikToks in every room. There was a cute fun kitchen scene where we had cookies and candy for the "sweet" lyrics."
SH: Would you consider Madison Beer one of your musical inspirations?
CQ: Yes! She has a beautiful voice and her music videos are so creative and you can really feel the story she tells.
SH: How has the pandemic changed the way you make music, if at all?
CQ: Right now we have been unable to have an extended production, and felt it was best to keep the filming to just me in my last couple of videos. The music studio that I was training in was closed down so for a while I had no in-person lessons which made it very difficult. I tried Zoom lessons and felt that was quite challenging. Recording in the studio has been different as well, getting temperature-checked and wearing masks between recording.
SH: Are there any artists that are particularly inspiring you during these unusual times?
CQ: Yes! There are way too many to name but here are a few—Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Drake, Shawn Mendes and Harry Styles.
