Colton Osorio Talks Playing a Young Monkey D. Luffy and His Love for Netflix’s One Piece
We haven't been able to stop thinking about the live-action Netflix adaptation of One Piece since it was released back in August, featuring all of the action, heart and charm we could have asked for. Among the talented actors bringing our animated favorites to life is 15-year-old Colton Osorio, who played the younger version of Monkey D. Luffy.
The young star has more than a dozen acting credits to his name, and he is just perfect playing the younger counterpart to Iñaki Godoy's beloved Luffy. We got the chance to catch up with the actor to learn all about his career and what joining the cast means to him. Read the full interview below.
Sweety High: When did you discover your passion for acting? Was there any specific a-ha moment that made you realize it was the path for you?
Colton Osorio: I was just playing soccer when I was 8-ish and I was offered an audition for a commercial, which was for FIFA's Copa América. I went to the audition and booked my first commercial.
My a-ha moment was definitely when I filmed One Piece. I knew that acting was my passion, and the experiences were ones to not miss out on. I loved working with the directors Marc Jobst and Tim Southam. I also enjoyed every moment of working and hanging out with such a talented cast and production team.

SH: Were you a fan of One Piece before you got cast? What has it meant to you to join such a beloved and long-standing franchise?
CO: My friends actually had recommended One Piece before I had even booked the role of young Monkey D. Luffy, and I had watched three episodes before falling in love with it. To be a part of this franchise is an amazing opportunity and gift to have, and I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

SH: Did you get to work with Iñaki Godoy at all to play the younger version of him?
CO: I did not get to work with Iñaki Godoy, but I did, however, hang out several times with him and his mother, who are both amazing people.
