Corbyn Besson Dishes on His Solo Debut With New ‘Self-Love Anthem,’ ‘Love Me Better’
Pop singer-songwriter Corbyn Besson may be best known for formerly being a member of boy band Why Don't We, but following the band's hiatus, he's ready for his own big break–and his solo debut single "Love Me Better" is just that.
The infectious new song was originally written as a Why Don't We single, featuring vibrant pop hooks and anthemic vocals that make it more than worth the wait. It's a track all about leaving your toxic past behind to pave a better future for yourself, and it's just the mood we're curating for ourselves in 2024. We had the pleasure of chatting with Corbyn all about the new single and why it's so important to him in the interview below.
The Story Behind 'Love Me Better'
Corbyn Besson: "Love Me Better" is the first single from my upcoming album and was originally supposed to be Why Don't We's next single after "How Do You Love Somebody," but we were forced to announce the band's hiatus before the song could come out. The day I wrote the song with Jonah, Daniel and a couple other amazing songwriters, I just knew it was really special, and sonically, it resonated with me a lot more than some of the other stuff we had been writing at the time. When I started to plan and write for my solo project, I came across the song deep in my notes app on my phone and instantly knew it had to be my first single. The song and message were just too good, and I couldn't let it sit unheard in my notes app forever.

What 'Love Me Better' Means
CB: This song, at its core, is a self-love anthem. It was written during one of the hardest times in my life and the underlying message is about breaking free from a toxic relationship or situation and choosing to love yourself better than anyone else can. From my own experience, I think that really is the first step to true happiness. The past few years have been really rough on just about everybody, and to me, 2024 feels like the first year in a long time that has a light at the end of the tunnel, so I really wanted to start this year with a positive message to inspire my fans and anyone who listens to my music to go into this year feeling like the best version of themselves (and sing their hearts out while they do it).

Corbyn's Favorite Lyric
CB: This might be kinda expected, but my favorite lyric from the song is "f*** it, Imma love me better," because it really captures the emotion of the entire song into one short line. I love how carefree and "over it" the line feels.

On Kicking Off 2024
CB: "Love Me Better" felt like the perfect choice for my debut single because the track feels very "me"—energetic guitars, hard-hitting drums, thumpy 808s and a massive pop chorus. Lyrically, it's also still so relevant to how I feel today after everything my fans and I have been through the past couple years.

What's Next
CB: I've kept my fans waiting for music for a long time (I legally had to, okay), so I'm gonna move at 100 miles per hour this year to make up for it. Expect music, music, music… and more music. I'm planning on hitting the road later this year as well, which I'm super excited about because touring has always been my favorite thing in the world. There really is nothing like stepping on stage in front of the people who love you the most and completely letting loose for an hour and a half. I can't wait to bring that experience around the world again!
