Corey Fogelmanis Tells Sweety High About Best Memories With ‘Girl Meets World’ Family
Who doesn't love Farkle Minkus?
Corey Fogelmanis stars as the strange, yet charming Farkle on the hit Disney Channel series Girl Meets World. With the show's season three finale airing next month, we caught up with Corey to find out what it's like to be part of the incredible cast.
Sweety High: What's it like to play Farkle, and how has your portrayal of the character changed over time?
Corey Fogelmanis: To be honest, I feel like when I first started playing that character, that was who I was. Obviously I was acting, but a lot of Farkle was just me. I didn't really think about him as being weird at the time, but when I look back at him he is very weird. But that's because I was really weird in real life.
It's been interesting growing up on the show because with each season the characters have changed as we've all grown up. It's fun to look back on that now, and it'll be nice to look back on it in the future, too.
SH: Who are you closest with on the Girl Meets World set?
CF: Most of our scenes are of everyone in the classroom, so we pretty much spend an equal amount of time together. There aren't cliques. We're all one big group and we all get along really well, which is nice. We've all become really close in the last three years.
SH: If you weren't an actor, what do you think you'd be?
CF: I think a DP—a director of photography. I'd want to do something still involved in entertainment. Having that creative outlet is something I would want out of any job. I'd definitely want to be a cinematographer or filmmaker of some kind.
SH: What are some of your other favorite hobbies?
CF: Photography is definitely one of them. I picked it up a couple of years ago, but it's a really fun way to express yourself creatively and visually. I really enjoy that.
I don't know if movie-watching is a hobby, but I love watching movies. And I love musical theater.
SH: What are some of your favorite plays?
CF: I love Pippin. It's really good. And Hamilton is amazing, of course.
SH: What's been your most memorable moment on the Girl Meets World set?
CF: That's so hard, but the classroom scenes, where we all get together and work with Ben [Savage], have been some of my most memorable moments. I don't have a specific moment, because they all kind of blend together after a while, but Ben is literally the funniest person ever. He's so great at lightening the mood and he makes everything really fun.
SH: What's it like working with Ben, knowing that all those years ago he was in your shoes?
CF: It's been really beneficial having Ben and Danielle [Fishel] as resources, as well as costars. They've definitely shared some of their wisdom with the younger members of the cast. We also work with Michael Jacobs, who also created Boy Meets World, so it's not all from scratch. We have that original show we can all draw from to create a rhythm for ourselves.
SH: What is it like to be a part of the Girl Meets World family?
CF: It really does feel like a family. We did live tapings for most of the episodes, and before each episode we'd get together in either Ben or Danielle's dressing room. We would talk about the week and how we were feeling about the show that night, what we were looking forward to and if we were going through anything difficult we could just talk it out. We started that from the beginning and it was a really, really nice bonding time sharing our feelings and getting really close with each other.
