10 Songs With 20-Second Choruses to Hum While You Wash Your Hands

Washing your hands is so important right now.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, health professionals suggest you wash your hands as often as you possibly can for at least 20 seconds. But if you're washing your hands multiple times a day, simply counting to 20 over and over again can get super boring.

Thankfully, there's a solution. Keep scrolling for 10 songs with 20-second choruses to hum while you wash your hands.

'Love on Top' by Beyoncé

Starting with the signature "Baby it's you" line, Beyoncé's "Love On Top" chorus is about 20 seconds long. Finish by belting out, "Finally you put my love on top," and you can shut off the sink and go about your business as usual.

'Truth Hurts' by Lizzo

All of Lizzo's "Truth Hurts" is painfully catchy, but the chorus provides those 20 seconds you need to get your hands sparkling clean. Start with, "Why men great 'til they gotta be great?" (a fair question) and sing all the way through to, "Bom bom bi dom bi dum bum bay" before walking away from the sink.

'Jolene' by Dolly Parton

If you really want to put your singing skills to the test, try singing "Jolene" by Dolly Parton. The lyrics are very simple, but the challenging tune will allow you to stretch your vocal cords while you get your hands clean. Just be sure that you don't speed up the pace of the song. You have to sing it just like Dolly herself to get all 20 seconds in.

'…Baby One More Time' by Britney Spears

Of course, our pop queen also has a tune to hum while washing your hands. "…Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears isn't only ridiculously catchy, it's also the perfect song to sing while scrubbing clean. Start with, "My loneliness is killing me" and end by belting out," Hit me, baby, one more time." If you sing it to pace,  you'll have washed your hands for a full 20 seconds.

'No Scrubs' by TLC

If you're dating life is taking a hit during this quarantine, you might as well remind yourself of your standards while washing your hands. The chorus of "No Scrubs" provides the 20 seconds you need to wash away all the dirt and grime from your fingers. Plus, it's a good mantra to live by.

'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' from The Wizard of Oz

If you want to sound horror-movie creepy while washing your hands, turn to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. From the "Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high" line to the "And the dreams that you dare to dream, really do come true…" line, it's a full 20 seconds. While the song is undeniably beautiful, it will give you a bit of an eerie vibe while you hum along and scrub your hands under the water.

'Livin' on a Prayer' by Bon Jovi

If creepy, sad-sounding songs aren't your vibe, you can head in an entirely different direction with "Livin' in a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. The chorus is a lot of drawn-out "woahs," but no one can deny that this tune is catchy. It may have you wanting to dance while scrubbing your hands clean, which will definitely make the 20 seconds pass faster.

'I Will Survive' by Gloria Gaynor

If you need an uplifting tune during this difficult time, turn to "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. The song is a perfect reminder of exactly why you're washing your hands this long during a pretty scary time. The chorus is exactly 20 seconds long, and it will encourage you to stay positive when things are looking pretty bleak.

'We Are Young' by Fun.

Even if you're stuck inside all day just waiting for things to end, you can remind yourself that you're still young and fun by singing this little tune while you washing your hands. Remember to sing the three lines of the chorus twice to get your full 20 seconds in.

'Another One Bites the Dust' by Queen

If you decide to sing this tune while washing your hands, you can pretend that you're humming about all the hidden bacteria and other yucky things that you're washing away. With each passing second, another one bites the dust. It's cheesy, but it's effective.
