Cosmos Within’s Cosmic Birthday Candles Smell Great While Helping You Embrace Your Higher Self

As both a candle lover and someone with a casual interest in astrology, I've always been a sucker for custom birthday candles. Of course, when a rep from Cosmos Within, makers of the Cosmic Birthday Candle, reached out to me and asked if I was interested in the brand, I jumped at the opportunity.

The brand makes 366 unique birthday candles—one for each day of the year, including Feb. 29—and I simply had to put in a request for my Dec. 5 birthday candle to see what it would have in store for me. Keep reading for my full review.

The Cosmic Birthday Candle

The Cosmic Birthday Candle is a special personalized candle celebrating your special day, featuring not just labeling specific to your birthday, but also a curated scent inspired by your sign.

These three-wick soy candles are 16 oz. each and hand-made in the United States, featuring detailed info on your birth date's unique celestial story with guidance from the brand's resident astrologer, Diego. These aspirational character readings are based on your "cosmic signature," focusing on your potential strengths and hurdles, with some guidance on how to overcome them, based on the idea that, by understand your nature determined by the stars, you can work toward becoming your best self. The candles retail for $49 each.

The Experience

I was super excited to unbox my December 5th candle, and I was immediately delighted by it. Even before taking the cute metal lid, embedded with constellations, from the vessel, I could already smell the notes of palo santo and sage—both used in smudging to cleanse a space of preexisting energies and make way for new ones. In the past, I've had astrologers tell me I'm a "psychic sponge," and that I need to clear my surrounding energies more often than most, so this couldn't be more perfect.

But before actually lighting the candle, I was eager to take a peek at the labels and see what it had to say about me. The textured white front label featured my birthday and the symbol of Sagittarius, a centaur, rendered in gold, following by more details on my my sign, its element, and its related gemstones and "totem." Mine is the fossa, a unique cat-like hunter native to Madagascar, which definitely caught my attention.

I was even more excited when I turned the candle around to see just how detailed things got on the back. The description started out by calling me a "perceptive soul," noting my sensitivity to higher frequencies and receptiveness to all the subtleties of the human experience, which is quite accurate.

Further, it detailed my interests in both astrology and psychology while noting that I can be unpredictable because I impulsively follow my intuition, and that I can close myself off because of my fear of being hurt. It also suggested opening myself up further to invite infinite possibility, which is something I've been better at recently, seeing some incredible changes as a result.

Lastly, it included some more details about my ruling element of fire and ruling planet of Jupiter, plus the daily affirmation "I touch the pulse of infinity and my true self flowers." I've recently integrated it into my meditation practices, and I'm loving it.

Of course, the most important aspect of any candle is the burning experience, and it met all of my expectations in that regard as well. The palo santo and sage smell was even more luxurious lit up, filling my space with a warm and musky yet fresh, almost spiritual, fragrance each time. With its three wicks, it burned cleanly and consistently, and you can also count on it for a lengthy burn time. Over the last couple weeks, I've burned it for well over 40 hours, and it still has some life in it yet.

And while I didn't get the chance to smell the scents representing the other 11 zodiac signs, given how much I loved mine, I'm confident they're equally delicious-smelling.
