6 Creative Lip and Nail Trends You Need to Try Now

It's no secret that the easiest way to elevate your outfit is with a bold lip or a cool mani, and we plan on taking full advantage of that this season.

Designers have made the message for 2016 clear: More is more. Think intense lip colors, old school gloss and quirky manicures. As we gear up for fall, we're updating our beauty box with all of six of these awesome new lip and nail trends—and you should, too.

1. Velvet Neutral Mattes

The matte lip is sticking around for another season, but this go around, comfort is key. Toss out all of your matte liquid lipsticks that get dry, cakey and flakey, and update them with products that actually last. These are our tried and true faves: Colour Pop Ulta Matte Lips in Chi ($6), Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Fawn Nude ($20) and NYX Lip Lingerie in Lace Detail ($7).

Pro tip: If you're over all your nudes, try peach.

2. Classic Red Lipstick

Sure, red is a classic lip color, but even the classics rise and fall in popularity. Whether it's for date night or a school dance, you won't go wrong with a red lip. We've got Milk Makeup in True Red ($22), Maybelline Color Sensational in Rebel Bloom ($7.50) and ULTA's lipstick in Cherry Picked ($8).

Pro tip: It's important to find a red that complements your skin tone. Identify whether your have cool or warm undertones and then, reach for a red lip in the same family. For example, if you have pink undertones, choose a ripe red on the cooler side; or, if you have yellow or green undertones, go with something warmer like red-orange.

3. Lip Gloss

You read that right, gloss is making a comeback. And we have to admit, we're kind of excited about it. While we, too, love the Kylie Jenner matted-out pout like No. 1, sometimes, we want our lips to feel soft and hydrated. In order to make lip gloss a bit more modern, we suggest reaching for a fashion forward shade like this orange lips gloss by Pur Cosmetics in Foxy ($18).

Cherry Balm Dotcom: smells like fun ???? Gives lips a sheer, juicy red tint that's perfect for whenever you want a hint of color.

4. Negative Space Nails

We've been eyeing this trend for awhile, and it's officially hot for fall—the negative space nail trend. This look is awesome for a few reasons. First, it's minimal, so it won't clash with anything you're wearing. And second, the base is clear so it can last for a whole month if you pick the right design. We like the idea of doing delicate, metallic stars, arrows, shapes and lines.

5. Marble Print Nails

Marble is just about everywhere—it's in our Instagram feed, it's on phone covers, chargers, laptop cases … and now, your nails. Yep, marble print nails made their runway debut at Christian Siriano's show and we've been itching to try this trend. If you're a master at-home nail pro, paint your nails white. Then, while the white polish is still wet, take a a thin wood cuticle stick and dip it into black or gray (or both) and slowly make an "S" shape pattern. Or, take the easier route and pick up Jamberry's marble nail adhesives ($15).

6. Emoji Nail Art

Just when we thought the emoji trend might die down, designers had to show tons of cool emoji nail art and get us all crazed about these little animated icons all over again! The options are endless with this trend. You can get just one, all different ones, or the same one on every finger—the choice is yours! We're kind of obsessed with Urban Outfitters emoji decals ($12).
