How Special Effects MUA Dakota Patton Is Making a Name for Herself at Just 6 Years Old
Special effects makeup is the unique art form of utilizing makeup and prosthetics to create looks that defy the imagination, and at the age of just 6, Gen Alpha special effects makeup artist prodigy Dakota Patton has already made a big name for herself in the industry.
You'd never guess that her impressive looks were created by a 6-year-old, and last week, Dakota attended the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards' Meet the Nominees event in Los Angeles, meeting with industry leaders including Oscar- and Emmy-winning makeup artist Michael Westmore and the legendary Ora Green. The award show is set for Feb. 18 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel to recognize the extraordinary achievements of makeup artists and hair stylists in film, TV, commercials and live theater, and ahead of the big show, we caught the chance to ask Dakota a few questions about her work and why it inspires her.
Sweety High: Who do you look up to in film and TV makeup?
Dakota Patton: I look up to superstar Michael Westmore. He's such an inspiration. I'm so glad I got to meet him today at the MUAHs "Meet the Noms" event. I also look up to Ve Neil. She's amazing.
