How David Kushner Explored the Darkness and Gave Into the Light in Viral ‘Daylight’
Thanks to TikTok, David Kushner's single"Daylight" was fully viral before it even came out, and in the short time since it dropped in April, it's absolutely exploded, and for good reason.
From David's deep, wonderfully gravelly vocal performance to the track's almost choral piano arrangement and its poignant and profound lyrics, every aspect instantly captures the attention of listeners and holds them enraptured until the very last note. It comes as no surprise that the song has been streamed more than 100 million times, topping charts and making waves not just here in the U.S., but also overseas in the U.K. The moment we heard it, we knew he had to know more, and David was kind enough to share the story behind the track in the interview below.
The Story Behind 'Daylight'
David Kushner: The story behind "Daylight" is about a concept of the light and darkness that lives in each of us and how we will give in to the temptation of the darkness when we should be giving into the light.

What 'Daylight' Means
DK: My song "Daylight" means everything to me because it came from such a broken dark place in my spirit and soul, but it's impacting and speaking to millions of people around the world. I hope it gives a glimmer of hope despite how dark the song is. "You and I drink the poison from the same vine" is me telling the world that we are all the same and we are all walking through darkness together. That's my favorite lyric from the song.
