Delilah Montagu Shares Details on the Real Relationship That Inspired New Single, ‘Orange’

Singer-songwriter Delilah Montagu is perhaps best known for her Grammy-winning collaborations, "Delilah (pull me out of this)" with Fred again.. and "Drive" with David Guetta and Black Coffee, but we think her solo work may be even stronger.

Delilah has captivated her audience with her emotional vocals and relatable songwriting, and her latest release, today's new single "Orange," is primed to tug on listeners' heartstrings. With a delicate, soothing sound, it's a powerful track about finding closure and acceptance in the aftermath of a relationship that simply wasn't meant to be. "Orange" is also set to appear on Delilah's upcoming EP, The Bird, out June 14, and we got the chance to chat with her about the new song and what's to come in the interview below.

The Story Behind 'Orange'

Delilah Montagu: I wrote "Orange" about my first love. It's all about loving someone but realizing that you can't exist in the same world as them in the way that you would like. It's about accepting that and loving them from afar.

What 'Orange' Means

DM: For me, it is about being able to love someone even though you are not in each other's lives anymore. Sometimes, the most loving thing to do is to not be.

Delilah's Favorite Lyric

DM: "I was a bird and you were a fish, we couldn't breathe together like this." This lyric, for me, sums up the whole sentiment of the song.

Delilah's Biggest Advice

DM: Honestly, with time comes acceptance. And real love is without needing from someone, and sometimes that's the most painful kind of love. But I promise it gets easier with time.

On 'Orange' and The Bird

DM: The Bird is all about my experiences growing up into the person I am today. The relationship definitely formed who I am and inspired a lot of my music.

What's Next

DM: An exciting headline show at the Moroccan lounge on the 13th of June! It's going to be super special.

Final Thoughts

DM: "Orange" is very close to my heart, so treat it with care 🙂
