After all, Demi Lovato got her big break as a Disney Channel star, but today she's best known for her incredible voice and hit singles including "Skyscraper" and "Heart Attack."

Given the success she has now, it's difficult to picture Demi struggle with her songwriting. Before her first breakthrough hit with "Give Your Heart A Break," Demi never knew if she'd ever pen a hit song.

"I had a moment where I was just like, 'What am I doing wrong? I know I can sing. I know I'm talented,'" she said in an interview with AP.

She noted that other artists were making it big without powerful vocals like hers.

"And I realized, 'Oh it's hit songs," she said. "You need hit songs."

Today, she doesn't have a problem co-writing hit songs.

Her fourth and latest album, the self-titled "Demi," debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.  The album features songwriters who have helped craft songs for artists including Adele, Selena Gomez, and One Direction.

"We didn't want to put a song on there that was an album filler, so we don't have any songs on there that couldn't be potential singles,"Demi said.

Demi has come a long way from starring in the Disney Channel film Camp Rock and series Sonny With a Chance. Appearing as a celebrity judge on The X Factor allowed Demi to break out from being just a Disney celebrity.

"It doesn't hurt when you're releasing music and you're in millions of people's homes every week — twice a week," she said. "'X Factor' has helped me make that transition from being the Disney pop singer."
