A Definitive Ranking of Diet Coke Flavors
Diet Coke recently added two new and unusual flavors to their list of fizzy drinks, but are they actually any good?
We decided to find out for ourselves by ranking them against the sodas in their existing lineup. Keep reading to find out which ones are worth trying, and which ones might be best left on the grocery store shelves.
7. Twisted Mango
Diet Coke's Twisted Mango flavor isn't bad—it's just that it's not particularly satisfying as a Diet Coke flavor. It's really sweet, so if you're a fan of the classic, it might not immediately appeal to your palate, though if you're a fan of fruity sodas, it's easy to get down. The mango flavor tastes pretty artificial, and while it's not disgusting by any means, it's far from our favorite.
6. Strawberry Guava
Strawberry Guava is one of the two latest flavors to hit store shelves, and it falls into the same traps as Twisted Mango. The strawberry flavoring is also ultra-sweet, and along with the guava, it lends this drink an almost bubble gummy taste. Again, it's not the worst thing we'd ever sipped, but there are definitely better Diet Coke flavors out there.
5. Zesty Blood Orange
The Zesty Blood Orange flavor has a better balance, making it actually taste like Diet Coke plus orangey flavor. The citrus taste is bold but not overpowering, and though it's hard to say for sure this is blood orange-flavored and not just regular old orange, we think it's decently tasty.
4. Blueberry Açai
We find Diet Coke's Blueberry Açai flavor really hard to place, but something about it really works for us. It's quite sweet like a couple of earlier flavors on this list, but the berry flavoring does a better job of complementing the Diet Coke. It's the first thing we've ever tried that was açai-flavored without including the actual fruit for its health benefits, but we're not mad at it.
3. Feisty Cherry
Cherry Coke is a classic, and the Diet Coke version, Feisty Cherry, comes pretty darn close to being just as good. It's got the Diet Coke taste we crave with a little something extra. It doesn't take any risks, so if you're wary of the new flavors, we recommend going for this one.
2. Ginger Lime
The folks behind Diet Coke landed on something special when they decided to give the drink ginger and lime flavors. While we wouldn't describe it as "spicy," there's definitely a gingery punch to the beverage, and the tart lime mellows it out. It's not too sweet like some of the others, and if you're all about a regular Diet Coke, we think it's worth at least one try.
1. Classic
As much as we appreciate that Diet Coke is adding some interesting flavors to its roster, you simply can't beat the classic. It's the gold standard by which all other flavors should be judged. It's not as syrupy sweet as a regular Coke, and though its crisp flavor might be an acquired taste, once you fall in love with it, it's hard to stop sipping.
