Euphoria MUA Donni Davy Shares Her Makeup Tips and Predictions for Coachella 2023
Coachella starts this weekend, so if you don't already have a makeup plan in order, it's time to start thinking about what you're going to wear!
On the one hand, the festival is all about putting on the boldest, most eye-catching looks befitting such an enviable event. On the other, do you really want to put in all of that effort if your makeup is only going to melt away and get all messed up with sweat under the beating Coachella sun? Lucky for all of us, there's a happy medium, and we got the chance to chat with none other than the goddess herself, Euphoria makeup artist Donni Davy, for her top tips for looking fab all Coachella long, as well as her top predictions for the event.
Sweety High: There are a lot of makeup considerations when it comes to a weekend-long festival like Coachella. What are your makeup and glam recommendations for looking cute and put-together during the festival, despite heat, humidity, sweat and grime?
Donni Davy: Waterproof and long-wear eye paints will be your best friends for festivals or fun hot weekend adventures! Although a bright-colored wing is a killer summer look, sometimes you don't always have a proper mirror at a festival, or you may be doing your makeup in the back of a car or just not have much time to spare. If that's the case, try some more painterly looks. Think Jules on Euphoria—some long-wear eye paint blended in a splotch in your inner eye corners (maybe on your outer eye corners too). Play with mixing and matching different colors and adorn each one with a stick-on rhinestone or face stud.

Another tip for the heat is to use oil-free skin prep and SPF. For foundation, use something where a little goes a long way. You don't want to be piling on a lot of complexion makeup if you'll be sweating. If it were me, I'd stick to a tinted sunscreen (love those!) and then concealer under my eyes and in any reddish areas where I want a little coverage. I'm just more comfortable if my skin can breathe in the heat, so that's my rec. You can also mix a little concealer in with your SPF and make your own tinted SPF!

SH: What are some of the trends you're expecting to see all over Coachella in terms of eyes, lips, overall makeup, colors, etc.?
DD: I'm expecting sparkling nudes and pastels, and rhinestone adornments, and the occasional super vivid, more painterly eye paint moment. I've seen a lot of people on the socials wearing the Half Magic silver face studs as fake piercings, and I'm wondering if that look will show up at Coachella! For lips, I'm feeling it's going to be a gloss with liner vibe.

SH: What are the must-have products for keeping your look fresh throughout a huge event like Coachella? How should they be utilized, and how often?
DD: Wear tubing mascara so you won't get raccoon eyes, carry a hand-held fan and wear sunglasses so you're not squinting.
SH: Any recommendations for anyone looking to maintain glam looks throughout the festival?
DD: Carry Half Magic Beauty stick-on rhinestones and Adornment Tweezers with you while you're out and about so you can add to your look, or be a little rhinestone fairy and add to other people's looks. You can throw a bunch more on when it gets dark out, and you will be twinkling like it's your job in the lower lighting in the evening.

SH: What are your suggestions for low-maintenance looks that are still eye-catching and fun?
DD: Glitterpuck Pressed Fairy Dust by Half Magic Beauty is a game-changer in the "eye-catching and magical but extremely fast, easy and low maintenance game." It's a super refined pressed glitter formula. You just tap your finger on the product and then pat your eyelids, and you'll get this gorgeous veil of sparkle that is completely weightless and will last all day. It looks amazing on completely bare lids, but you can also layer it over any powder eyeshadow or eye paint.

Face gems are the perfect low-maintenance way to create an easy yet impactful festival look. You can wear them alone or apply right after doing your eye makeup. My personal favorite way to wear rhinestones is by applying a few tiny rhinestones spaced out along my lower lash line. This looks really pretty and perfectly understated. If you want to try a bolder rhinestone look but keep it glam and chic, use a few different sizes. The different-sized gems will reflect different-sized twinkles, which makes the look feel fancier and multi-dimensional. Tiny rhinestones can be used to create more defined and delicate corners, angles, and tapered moments.
