The DryBar Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush Might Become My Everyday Tool

As a thick hair girlie on an ongoing journey to repair my color and heat damage, I'm always looking for new products to streamline my process while maintaining the health of my new growth. Unfortunately, I also love heated styles, so it's been a journey to find more tools that won't fry my hair.

One product that has been on my radar for the past few years is DryBar's Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush, so I was thrilled when their team offered to send me a sample to try out myself. Continue reading to discover just how effective the brush was for my damaged type 3 hair and whether you should splurge on this luxury hair tool.

Where Can You Buy It?

The DryBar Double Shot Blow-Dryer is pretty popular these days, so you can find it at a few different locations: Sephora, Ulta, Kohl's, Amazon and the brand's website. As of Aug. 23, 2023, prices range from $77 to $155.

What Are the Features?

According to their website, the Double Shot dryer has Ionic Technology to soothe frizz and vents that ensure maximum airflow. These two points for me were imperative because my hair is poofy and frizzy whenever I dry my hair, and because I have thick hair, it often takes more than half an hour to completely dry.

The Double Shot Blow-Dryer Brush has nylon, tufted bristles to "allow for exception tension and control." This was also important because I often struggle to find adequate tension on my brush, which makes it hard to combat shrinkage.

This round brush also has three temperature settings, so it's usable for all hair types, from fine to coarse.

When Should You Use It?

The directions tell you to use this on shampooed, towel-dried hair. It's also an easy way to get a blowout look on dry hair without breaking out the good ol' flat iron.

My Experience

After adding a round brush to my hair routine a few months earlier, it was easy to dive into using this dryer without any issues. Naturally, using a round brush can be a learning curve for anyone who isn't used to anything but a standard blow dryer and flat iron.

As always, I begin with using the CHI Silk Infusion heat protectant. I typically run a regular blow dryer through my hair for about 10 minutes before I start another drying tool. It took me about 30 to 40 minutes to completely dry my hair with the Double Shot.

Honestly, I'm unsure if it was the heat protectant I used or the Double Shot dryer, but my hair looked shiny once I finished. Even at its highest setting, I didn't feel like the dryer got very hot, so I don't think it compromised my hair health. I also think it is the kind of tool you can use for years without generating any noticeable damage.

I did struggle with styling my hair. The current nature of my texture and length is that styling without flat ironing it first is nearly impossible. As a disclaimer, I typically wear extensions, and I'm writing this review without them. However, I have had this used on me before when my hair was in a better state, and my stylist was able to give me the gorgeous blowout look without the iron. So, I'm looking forward to trying this again in the future.

Bottom Line

Did the Double Shot Blow-Dryer give me that effortlessly beautiful, bombshell look that the models and review photos have? No. But I've come to terms with the fact that I can't achieve that look with a blow-dryer alone because, at the end of the day, that's just my hair at the moment.

With that said, this blow dryer did an awesome job at getting my hair dry in a shorter amount of time. I've never been able to perfect using a brush and a blow dryer together, so this is a very effective alternative to get the sleek blowout that improves the appearance of my hair after I flat iron it. I do see myself using it again to simplify my blow drying routine, and as I previously mentioned, I'm excited to try it again when I have longer, dried hair.

For someone who has less stubborn hair than me, I think the Double Shot could do exactly what it's meant to do give you the salon-styled blowout at home.

I had someone I know to try it out on their hair, and I was obsessed with their end result. Their hair was bouncy and voluminous, just like it advertises. But as I alluded to earlier, if you have coarser hair than me (type 4), you might just have to use the Double Shot as an alternative to your everyday blow dryer.

If you have the money, I do think it's a reasonable investment. And if, for some reason, your Double Shot dies, DryBar offers a two-year warranty, which I have to applaud!
